    ASSEMBLY NOTE: References to right or left side of the snow thrower are determined from behind the unit in the operating position (standing directly behind the snow thrower, facing the handle panel). Removing From Carton Cut the corners of the carton and lay the sides flat on the ground. Remove and discard all packing inserts.
  • Page 8 ASSEMBLY Insert chute control rod into input of chute control head. Push rod as far into the chute control head as possible, keeping the holes in the rod pointing upward. See Figure 4. Place chute onto chute base and ensure chute control rod is positioned under handle panel.
  • Page 9 ASSEMBLY Rotate the joystick to the one o’clock position so the silver indicator arrow on the input shaft below the control panel points upward. See Figure 7. NOTE: The joystick will be angled slightly to the right. See Figure 6 & Figure 7. Make sure all cables are routed to the left of the chute control rod.
  • Page 10 ASSEMBLY Finish securing chute control head to chute support bracket with wing nut, and clevis pin and bow-tie cotter pin removed in Step 2. Do not overtighten. See Figure 10. Check that all cables are properly routed through the cable guide on the engine.
  • Page 11 ASSEMBLY Chute Clean-Out Tool A chute clean-out tool is fastened to the top of the auger housing with a mounting clip. See Figure 13. The tool is designed to clear a chute assembly of ice and snow. This item is fastened with a cable tie at the factory. Cut the cable tie before operating the snow thrower.
  • Page 12 ASSEMBLY Adjustments Skid Shoes The snow thrower skid shoes are adjusted at the factory to be approx 1/8” below Smooth Surface the bottom surface of the shave plate. Adjust them downward, if desired, prior to operating the snow thrower. CAUTION It is not recommended that you operate this snow thrower on gravel as it can easily pick up and throw loose gravel, causing personal injury or damage to the snow thrower and surrounding property.

    Maneuver the snow thrower so that the cutters penetrate a high standing snow drift to assist snow falling into the augers for throwing. Meets ANSI Safety Standards Craftsman Snow Throwers conform to the safety standard of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
  • Page 14 OPERATION Throttle Control Drive Control/ Auger Control Lock DRIVE CONTROL The throttle control is located on the rear of the engine. It regulates the speed of the engine and will shut OFF the engine when moved into the STOP position. Primer Depressing the primer forces fuel directly into the engine’s carburetor to aid in cold-weather starting.
  • Page 15 OPERATION Clean-Out Tool • Do not overfill the fuel tank. After refueling, make sure the tank cap is closed properly and securely. WARNING • Be careful not to spill fuel when refueling. Spilled fuel or fuel vapor may ignite. If any fuel is spilled, make sure the area is dry before starting the Never use your hands to clear a clogged chute assembly.

  • Page 19 SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE CAUTION The spark plug must be tightened securely. A loose spark plug can become very hot and can damage the engine. Lubrication Gear Shaft The gear (hex) shaft should be lubricated at least once a season or after every 25 hours of operation.
  • Page 20 SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE Adjustments Shift Cable If the full range of speeds (forward and reverse) cannot be achieved, refer to the figure to the right and adjust the shift cable as follows: Place the shift lever in the fastest forward speed position (F6). Loosen the hex nut on the shift cable index bracket.

  • Page 22 SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE Remove the frame cover from the underside of the snow thrower by removing the self-tapping screws which secure it. See Figure 32. Loosen and remove the shoulder screw which acts as a belt keeper. Refer to Figure 33. Remove the belt from around the auger pulley, and slip the belt between the support bracket and the auger pulley.

    OFF-SEASON STORAGE If the snow thrower will not be used for 30 days or longer, or if the end of the snow season, the equipment needs to be stored properly. Follow storage instructions below to ensure top performance from the snow thrower for future use.     TROUBLESHOOTING WARNING Disconnect the spark plug wire and ground it against the engine to prevent unintended starting. Before performing any type of maintenance/service, disengage all controls and stop the engine. Wait until all moving parts have come to a complete stop. Always wear safety glasses during operation or while performing any adjustments or repairs.

  • Page 50 SERVICIO Y MANTENIMIENTO Varilla de control del canal Para lograr una mayor engagment varilla hexagonal en el piñón de artes en el marco del panel de manejar, es necesario ajustar la varilla de control del canal. Para ajustar este varilla, proceda de la siguiente manera: Retire el pasador de chaveta del orificio más cercano al conjunto del canal sobre el montaje de rotación del canal.
