For information about the VCR's basic operations, such as
Playback (page 13), Recording TV program (page 16), or
Timer Recording (page 18), see Basic Operations.
If you are already familiar with the basic operations, see
Advanced Operations. If you have any probiems in
operating the VCR, refer to Troubleshooting. If your VCR is
in need of repair, contact your local Sony service facility.

This manual explains operations using the VCR Remote
Commander. However, the buttons on the VCR with the
same name or mark as those on the Remote Commander
function exactly the same as those on the Remote
Commander.
When you are reading through the manual, remember:
¢ Buttons and switches are shown in uppercase letters.
Example: Press PLAY.
* Numbers in the illustrations correspond to numbers in the
text.

The Sony Video Cassette Recorder (VCR) incorporates High
Quality (HQ)* picture technology, and features various
convenient functions for playback, recording, and editing.
For example, quick and easy access is a "must" during
playback and editing; therefore, this VCR incorporates a
DUAL MODE SHUTTLE ring. You can easily advance and
rewind the tape to locate a desired scene by simply turning
the ring.
*HQ: VCRs with this marking incorporated VHS high-quality
technology and are compatible with any video cassette recorders
bearing the
mark.
