- Never mount used tires on your vehicle if
you are not sure of their "previous histo-
ry." Old used tires may have been dam-
aged even though the damage cannot be
seen that can lead to sudden t ire failure
and loss of vehicle control.
- If you not ice unusual vibration or if the
vehicle pulls to one side when d riving, al-
ways stop as soon as it is safe to do so
and check the wheels and tires for dam-
age.

Accessory weight
means t he comb ined we ight (in excess of
those sta ndard items which may be rep laced)
of au t oma t ic tr an smission , power st eer ing ,
power brakes, power windows, power sea t s,
rad io, and heater, to the extent that t hese
items are availab le as factory -installed equip-
ment (whether installed or not) .
Aspect ratio
means t he ratio of the he ight t o the w idth of
the tire in percent . Numbers of 55 or lower in-
dicate a low sidewall for improve d steering re-
sponse and better overall handling on dry
pavement .
Bead
means t he part of the ti re that is made of
steel wires, wrapped or reinforced by ply cords
and that is shaped to fit the rim.
Bead separation
means a breakdown of the bond between
components in t he bead.
Cord
means the strands forming the plies in the
tire .

decrease the e lasticity of summer tires,
which affects tract ion a nd brak ing ability.
If summer tires are used in very cold tem -
peratures, cracks ca n form on the tr ead

that can cause loud driving no ise and un-
balan ced t ires. Audi is not responsible for
th is t ype of damage .
Cold tire inflation pressure
means the t ire press ure recommended by t he
vehicle manufacture r fo r a tire of a des igna t ed
size t hat has not bee n d riven for more t han a
coup le of miles (kilometers) at low speeds in
t he three hour period before the tire press ure
is measured or adjusted.
Curb weight
me an s t he we ight of a motor vehicle wit h
standard equipment includ ing the max imum
capacity of fuel, oil, and coolant, air condi -
tioning and additional weight of optiona l
equipment.
Extra load tire
me a ns a t ire d esigned t o ope rate at higher
loads and at highe r inflation press ures than
the cor responding standard tire. Extra load
tires may be ident ified as "XL", "xl", "EXTRA
LOAD", or "RF" on the sidewall.
Gross Axle Weight Rating ("GAWR ")
me a ns t he load -ca rrying ca pac ity of a single
axle system , measured at the tire-ground in-
terfaces.
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating ( "GVWR ")
mea ns the max imum total loaded we ight of
t he vehicle.
