WARNING Concerning Stationary Images on the TV Screen:
Do not leave stationary
or letterbox images on screen for extended periods of time. This can cause uneven pic-
ture-tube aging.
Normal use of the TV should involve tbe showing of pictm'es that contain constantly moving and changing images that
fill the screen. Be careful not to leave nonmoving images on screen for exlea_dedperiods of time, or to diaplay the same
images on screen too frequently, because subtle ghost images can be lelt on the picture tubes. Sources ol
stationary
images may be DVD disks, laser disk.s, video games, CD-i disks, videotapes, digital television boxes, broadcast chma-
nels, cable chmmels, satellite cham_els, mad others. Here are some examples of stationary
images (this is not an all-
inclusive list; you may encounter others in your viewing):
• DVD menus--listings of DVD disk content
• Letterbox black bar_hown
at the top mad botlom oftbe TV screen when a wide screen (16:9) movie is vieaved
on a TV wiIh standard (4:3) aspect ratio.
• Video-game images and scoreboards
• Television station Iogos---present a probleaal if they are bright and statiom_ry; moving or low-conm_t graphics are
less likely to cause uneven aging ol tbe picture tube
• Stock-market
tickers--presented
at the botlom ol tbe TV screen
• Shopping channel Iogos and pricing displays---bright and shown cot_stmatly o1'repeatedly in tbe same location on
tbe TV screen.
Placement of the TV
• To avoid cabinet w_ping, cabinet color ch_mges, and incre&_edchance of set failure, do not place tbe TV where tem-
peratures can become excessively hot; for example, in direct sunlight or near a heating appliance.
• Be sure to allow a free flow of air to mad from tbe perlbrated back covm; of the set.
Cleaning
• To avoid possible shock hazm'd, be sure the TV is unplugged fl'om the electrical outlet before cleaning.
• Regularly dust tbe TV with a dW, tmt_scratching duster to keep tbe TV clean.
• When cleaning the TV, take care not to scratch m: damage the screen surface. Avoid wearing jewelry m: using any_
thing abrasive. Do not use household cleaners. Wipe tbe front screen with a clean cloth dampened with water. Use
even, easy, vertical strokes when cleaning.
• Gently wipe the cabinet surfaces with a clean cloth or sponge dampeaaed in a solution ol cool, clear water and a mild
soap or detergent. Use a clean, dry cloth to dry the wiped surfaces.
• Occa_sionally vacuum the ventilation lm]es m; slots in the back cover of the set.
• Never use thinners, insecticide sprays, or otber chemicals on or near the cabinet, as they might cause pemaanent mar_
ring ol the cabinet finish.
