1. Input Jacks
Connect your instrument either to the HIGH or LOW jack, as
appropriate for the output level of your guitar. Conventional
guitars should be connected to HIGH, and high-output
instruments to LOW.
* To prevent malfunction and/or damage to speakers or other
devices, always turn down the volume, and turn off the
power on all devices before making any connections.
2. Channel Select Switch
This selects either the Clean channel or the Lead channel. The
selected channel is shown by the indicator color (Clean: green;
Lead: red). The channel can also be switched using an optional
footswitch. If you use a Boss FS-5L footswitch (optional), which
has an indicator, the footswitch will also provide a visual
indication of the selected channel.
* When a footswitch is connected, the Channel Select switch
on the front panel will not function.
* In some cases, a slight noise may occur when the channel is
switched.
Clean Channel
3. Bright Switch
This adds sparkle to the mid to high range, making the sound
crisper. This is especially effective for rhythm, etc.
4. Volume
This adjusts the volume of the clean channel.
Lead Channel
5. Boost Switch
This boosts the lead sound to give it more body and edge. This
can also be switched on/off using a Boss FS-5L footswitch
(optional).
* When a footswitch is connected, the Boost switch on the front
panel will not function.
* The more that the Pre Volume is raised, the lesser the amount
of change obtained when the Boost Switch is pressed.
6. Pre Volume
This adjusts the degree of distortion for the lead sound. Used
in conjunction with the Boost switch, this gives you a wide
range of sounds from "crunch" to high-gain distortion.
7. Post Volume
This adjusts the volume of the lead channel.
Equalizer
8. Bass
Adjusts the tone of the low range.
9. Middle
Adjusts the tone of the mid range.
10. Treble
Adjusts the tone of the high range.
Master
11. Reverb
This adjusts the volume of the reverb. If you connect a Boss FS-
5L footswitch (optional), the reverb can be switched on/off from
the footswitch.
* If the reverb is turned down, there will be no reverb effect
even if the footswitch is on.
12. Presence
This gives sparkling definition to the mid and high range. Use
it when you want to make the sound crisper.
13. Low Cut Switch
This cuts the low range, tightening up the sound and giving it
more cohesion.
e Power Squeezer (14, 15)
The Power Squeezer function allows you to achieve the tone
normally associated with a power amp driven at full volume,
while reducing the actual power to a manageable level. It
provides a convenient way to get the sound of power amp
distortion.
14. Squeeze Level Switch
When the Power Squeezer switch is in the ACTIVE position,
this selects the amount by which the output of the power amp
will be attenuated.
50%: reduce the power by 50%
80%: reduce the power by 80%
* At low volumes, operating the Squeeze Level switch will not
cause a noticeable difference in the volume. This is normal
and does not indicate a malfunction.
15. Power Squeezer Switch
When this switch is in the ACTIVE position, the Power Squeezer
function will operate.
16. Power Switch
This turns the power on/off. When it is on, the switch will light.
* Once the connections have been completed, turn on power
to your various devices in the order specified. By turning on
devices in the wrong order, you risk causing malfunction
and/or damage to speakers and other devices.
External Effects Device -> GC-408
* This unit is equipped with a protection circuit. A brief interval
(a few seconds) after power up is required before the unit
will operate normally.
17. External Speaker Jack
A specially-designed GC-4085 external speaker box (optional)
can be connected to this jack. This provides 80 W of output
power. If you wish to connect a different external speaker, make
sure that the impedance is 8 Q or more.
18. Effect Send/Return Jacks
These jacks are used when connecting external effects.
Connect the Effect Send jack to the input of your external effect
device, and connect the output of the external effect to the Effect
Return jack.
19. Footswitch Jack (Reverb)
A footswitch such as a Boss FS-5L (optional) can be connected
here to switch Reverb on/off.
20. Footswitch Jack (Boost)
A footswitch such as a Boss FS-5L (optional) can be connected
here to switch Boost on/off.
21. Footswitch Jack (Channel Select)
A footswitch such as a Boss FS-5L (optional) can be connected
here to switch channels.
