General Description
The Bose
®
Acoustic Wave
®
Cannon
System II (AWCS
TM
II) loudspeaker is the
bass component for installed Bose sound
systems designed for high quality reinforce-
ment of voice and music. The AWCS II
includes system equalization, when com-
bined with a 402
TM
C, 502
TM
C or 802
Series II systems controller. These systems
controllers, with the OC-1 option card
installed, assure smooth, accurate spectral
response across the entire operating
range of the AWCS II system while pro-
viding loudspeaker protection and two
independent mid/high frequency signal
channels. Fourth order subsonic and
ultrasonic band-limiting filters use power
efficiently, reducing harmonic distortion,
and high-excursion cone instability.
Component Description
The Acoustic Wave
®
Cannon System II
loudspeaker provides extended band-
width high performance in permanent
installations. When mounted near solid
walls, ceilings, or floors its acoustic bass
loading delivers greater low frequency
sound pressure.
Each AWCS II enclosure houses a single
high power twelve inch woofer, mounted
between two different length waveguides.
Molded flanges include steel reinforcing
plates that provide secure mounting points.
The 402C, 502C, and 802C Series II
systems controllers are 1U rack devices.
Each provides crossover functions, active
electronic equalization, and dual channel
signal processing for the AWCS II system
in combination with either Bose 402,
502A, or 802 loudspeakers. Each systems
controller features -10/+4dB-V input
sensitivity switches, all-balanced inputs
and outputs, -18/+3dB bass level control,
bass mono sum switch, automatic output
muting during turn on/off, and a secure
rear-panel operating mode switch.
The OC-1 option card must be installed
in the systems controller. It provides an
additional bass active equalization circuit
when the unit is operated in mode switch
position 4. A proprietary circuit in the OC-1
constantly monitors amplifier voltage and
assures that woofer excursion does not
exceed the safe operating region. This
