This also enables the shredder to start shredding paper. Reverse Runs the shredder in reverse mode. Press and hold to activate. Indicator LEDs The 3140S/4850S and 3140C/4850C have three indicator LEDs on the Control panel.
Lubrication The 3140S/4850S requires no lubrication, unless cutters squeak. The 3140C/4850C requires lubrication after every waste bag replacement. Please use Fellowes Oil part # 3525001 WARNING: Do not use aerosol lubricants of any kind, as this could void the warranty.
Troubleshooting Troubleshooting the shredder begins with checking the machine for possible faults. Possible causes for machine malfunctions include: Paper feed problems Electrical problems Mechanical problems Paper Feed Faults Paper can become jammed if the paper is misfed. Paper may also jam if the waste bin is full or if there is a build up of paper shreds along the underside of the cutting assembly.
The cutting system may have broken paper strippers. This will require the whole cutting block to be replaced. Tools and Supplies The following tools and supplies are required to properly service Fellowes shredders, Models 3140S/4850S and 3140C/4850C: 1. Screwdrivers ...
Cabinet and Housing The cabinet has supports that secure the self contained shredder head. The self contained shredder head consist of a housing top, housing base, mechanical and electrical components. The Control Panel Button with the power, and reverse buttons, the indicator LEDs, and the Paper infeed LEDs are located on the housing cover.
Head Assembly To open the self contained shredder head: 1. Remove head from cabinet. 2. Place the shredder head on a stable flat surface upside down. (bottom of head assembly should be facing you) Note: Make sure to place the head on a non scratch surface. 3.
Cabinet Door To remove the door from the cabinet: Pull sideways on hinge clip for each door hinge. Paper Waste Bin The paper waste bin fits in the cabinet. The bin full LED will illuminate when the waste bin is full. o The bin must be emptied and put back in the cabinet.
Cutting Block The cutting block consists of the paper cutting cylinders and metal paper strippers, bearing plates, distance rods, and cover. The motor and gears are attached to the cutting block. To remove the cutting block from the cabinet: 1. Follow steps 1-4 (Head Assembly section) on pg 10. 2.
2. Remove 3 stage gear by sliding it off long cutter shaft. stage gear 3. Remove the rest of the gears as necessary. Note: If synchron gears are removed cutters may need to be retimed!! Motor The motor shaft turns the gear drive. ...

Electrical Assemblies The main PCB, Power Relay PCB, auto start sensors, and capacitor make up the electrical portion of model 3140S/4850S and 3140C/4850C: CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock, make sure the shredder is disconnected from the power source before performing any electrical repairs. Capacitors Typical problems that may be caused by defective capacitors are: No motor function...
Power Cord To Remove Power Cord: 1. Unplug wires from PCB. 2. Loosen strain relief. CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock, make sure the shredder is disconnected from the power source before performing any electrical repairs. Bin Full System A Snap Action Switch on the PCB activated by a mechanical flap monitors the contents of the waste bin.
Main PC Board The main PC board is located on the top housing cover. The PCB is secured onto the top cover by 5 Philips drive screws. All wires (i.e., bin full sensor and motor wires; control panel cable) can be disconnected from the board via quick disconnect.
Power Relay Board Model 3140S/4850S and 3140C/4850C is equipped with a relay board which is used for power correction. This board enables the shredder to use 2 capacitors. This board is located on the underside of the housing cover. ...
