GENERAL
RECOMMENDATIONS
Alwaysobservesafetyruleswhenperformingany maintenance.
Thewarrantyon this lawnmowerdoesnot coveritemsthat have
been subjectedto operatorabuseor negligence. T o receivefull
valuefromwarranty,operatormustmaintainthe equipment a s
instructedhere.
Changingof engine-governed speedwill voidenginewarranty.
All adjustmentsshouldbe checkedat leastonceeach season.
Periodically checkall fastenersand make suretheseare tight.

Forgood performance, t he spark plug mustbe properlygappedand
freeof deposits.Checkthe sparkplug every50 hoursor oncea
season.Replacethe sparkplug every200 hoursof operation.

Disconnectthe cap fromthe spark plug,and removeanydirt from
the sparkplug area.
2.
Use the propersize sparkplug wrenchto removethe spark plug.
3.
inspectthe sparkplug. Replaceit if damaged,badlyfouled,if the
sealingwasheris in poor condition,or if theelectrodeis worn.
4.
Measurethe electrodegap with a suitablegauge.Thecorrectgap
is 0.028- 0.030in. (0.70- 0.80 ram).See Figure12.If adjustment
is needed,correctthe gap by carefullybendingthe side electrode.

install the sparkplug carefully,by hand,to avoidcross-threading.
6.
After thespark plug is seated,tightenwith the propersize spark
plug wrenchto compressthe washer.
Wheninstallinga newspark plug,tighten 1/2turn afterthe spark plug
seatsto compressthe washer.
Whenreinstalling the originalspark plug,tighten 1/8-1/4turn afterthe
sparkplug seatsto compressthe washer.
NOTE:Properlytightenthe sparkplug.A loosesparkplug can become
very hotand can damagethe engine.Overtightening thespark plug
candamagethethreadsin the cylinderhead.

Attachthe sparkplug capto thespark plug.
Air Cleaner
A dirty air cleanerwill restrictair flow to the carburetorand causepoor
engineperformance, i nspectthe filter eachtime theengine is oper-
ated.You will needto cleanthe filter morefrequentlyif youoperatethe
enginein verydusty areas.
Cleantheair cleanerevery 25 hoursof operationor once a season.
Replacetheair cleanerevery200 hoursof operation.
NOTE:Operatingthe enginewithouta filter,or with damagedfilter,will
allowdirt to enterthe engine,causingrapidengine wear.
Inspection
1.
Pressthe latchtabs on the top of the air cleanercover,and
removethe cover.Checkthe filter to be sureit is cleanand in
good condition.See Figure13.
2.
Reinstall t he filter and air cleanercover.
Cleaning
1.
Tapthe filter severaltimeson a hard surfaceto removedirt, or
blowcompressed air notexceeding30 psithroughthefilter from
the cleanside that facestheengine.Nevertry to brushoff dirt.
Brushingwill forcedirt intothe fibers.
2.
Wipedirt from the air cleanerbodyand cover usinga moist rag.
Be carefulto preventdirt from enteringthe air duct that leadsto
the carburetor.
