    OPERATION Do not put hands andfeet near rotatingparts or inthe feedingchambers anddischargeopening.Contactwiththe rotatingimpellercan amputate fingers,hands,and feet. Beforestartingthe machine,makesurethe chipperchute,feed intake, andcutting chamberare empty andfree of all debris. Thoroughlyinspectall materialto be shreddedandremoveany metal, rocks,bottles,cans, or otherforeignobjectswhichcould cause personal injury or damageto the machine. If it becomesnecessaryto push materialthroughthe shredderhopper, use a small diameterstick.

ATTACHING THE CHIPPER a. Remove thethreecuppedwashersand hex nutsfrom weld studsaroundthe openingon the sideof the impellerhousing. See Figure5. b. Removethe hexbolts,flat washers,and lock nuts from thetwo holeson the upperend of the supportbrace.

    GAS AND OIL FILL=UP Oil (one bottle shipped with unit) FirstTime Use Removeoil fill dipstick. With thechippershredderon levelground,usea funnelto empty entirecontentsof oil bottle providedintothe engine. Replace oil fill dipstickand tighten. Subsequent Uses Onlyuse high qualitydetergentoil ratedwith APIserviceclassification SF,SG,or SH. Selectthe oil's SAEviscositygradeaccordingto the expectedoperatingtemperature.Followthe chart below.

    NOTE:A noisewillbe heardwhenfindingthestart of the compression cycle.This noiseis caused bythe flails and fingers,which are part of the shreddingmechanism,and it shouldbe expecteduntilthe impeller reachesfull speed. Pullthe rope with a rapid,continuous, f ull arm stroke.Keepa firm grip on the starterhandle.Letthe rope rewindslowly. Repeat,if necessary,until enginestarts.When enginestarts, move chokecontrolgraduallyawayfrom thethrottlecontrol.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS Alwaysobservesafetyruleswhen performing anymaintenance. Thewarrantyon this chippershredderdoes notcover itemsthat havebeensubjectedto operatorabuseor negligence. T o receive full valuefrom warranty,operatormustmaintaintheequipmentas instructedhere. Someadjustments will haveto be madeperiodicallyto maintain yourunit properly.
  • Page 15 Engine Oil Change Onlyuse high qualitydetergentoil ratedwith APIservice classificationSF,SG,or SH. Selectthe oil'sSAE viscositygrade accordingto the expectedoperatingtemperature.Referto opera- tionsectionfor viscositychart. Changeengineoil after thefirst five to eight hoursof operation, and everyfifty hoursor every seasonthereafter. C hangeoil every twentyfive hourswhenoperatingengineunder heavyload or in high temperatures.
  • Page 16 Installa replacementblade(Part No. 781-0490)with the hardware removedearlier or sharpen. IMPORTANT: W hensharpeningthe blade,protecthandsby using gloves.Followthe originalangleof grindand makesureto removean equalamountfrom eachblade. CHIPPER To replacethe otherblade,rotatethe impellerto exposethe secondbladeand repeatthe stepsabove. NOTE: Makecertainbladesare reassembledwith thesharpedge facing upward.Torquehardwareto 250- 300 in. Ibs.

    SHARPENING OR REPLACING DER BLADE Stopthe engineand makecertain that all movingparts have cometo a completestop. Disconnectthe spark plugwire and groundagainstthe engine• Lowerthe hopperassemblyand block up the housing. Remove the six hexlock nuts and flat washersfromthe weld studson the flail housing.Retain the hardware. Carefullyseparatethe hopperassemblyfrom the impeller assemblyand removethesupport plate•...

    Removespark plugand pourapproximately 1 oz. (30 ml)of clean engineoil intothe cylinder.Pull the recoilstarterseveraltimesto distributethe oil, and reinstallthespark plug. Cleanengineof surfacedebris. PREPARING THE CHIPPER Whenstoringthe chippershredderin an unventilated or metal storageshed, careshouldbe takento rustproofthe non-painted surfaces.Usinga lightoil or silicone,coat the equipment, especiallyany springs,bearings,and cables.
