9. Close the microprocessor retainer and lock it into position with the small handle. Ensure that the new
microprocessor is securely seated in the socket.
10. Reinstall the heat-sink-and-fan assembly. See "Heat-sink-and-fan assembly" on page 149.
11. Reconnect any cables that were disconnected from the system board.

Attention: Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter
1 "Read this first: Important safety information" on page 1.
CAUTION:
The heat-sink-and-fan assembly and microprocessor might be very hot. Before you open the
computer cover, turn off the computer and wait several minutes until the computer is cool.
To replace the system board, do the following:
1. Prepare your computer. See "Preparing your computer" on page 92.
2. To get access to the system board, remove the following parts if any:

in the microprocessor socket. Then, carefully lower the new

on one corner of the new microprocessor is the microprocessor orientation
