8. Although the preset Guest VLAN profile for the Guest Portal WiFi network works
well for most situations, if you want to change the VLAN profile, select the VLAN
Profile check box, and select another VLAN profile from the menu.
The preset VLAN profile name is Guest, the VLAN has ID 40, and the combination
is shown in the menu as Guest(40).
For more information about VLANs, see Manage the VLANs on page 72, including
How the router organizes LANs, VLANs, and WLANs on page 74.
9. Under Security Options, select a WiFi security option:
• None: No authentication and encryption is required. This is the default setting,
which might be appropriate for some public WiFi networks and WiFi hotspots.
However, for many such environments, opportunistic wireless encryption (OWE,
see further down in this section) might be a better choice.
• WPA2-PSK [AES]: The WPA2 option uses AES encryption. This type of security
allows only WiFi devices that support WPA2 or WPA3 to join the network.
When you select this option, the Password (Network Key) field displays. Do the
following:
a. In the Password (Network Key) field, enter the network key (password) that
you want to use.
It is a text string from 8 to 63 characters.
b. Write down the new password and keep it in a secure place for future
reference.
• WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]: If your network includes legacy devices
(devices that support only WPA), select this radio button. This option, which uses
AES and TKIP encryption, allows WiFi devices that support WPA, WPA2, or WPA3
to join the network.
When you select this option, the Password (Network Key) field displays. Do the
following:
a. In the Password (Network Key) field, enter the network key (password) that
you want to use.
It is a text string from 8 to 63 characters.
b. Write down the new password and keep it in a secure place for future
reference.
• OWE: For many public WiFi networks and WiFi hotspots, opportunistic wireless
encryption (OWE) might be a good choice because it offers CCM mode protocol
(CCMP) as encryption without authentication for access to the WiFi network.
Protected Management Frames (PMF) is automatically set to mandatory. (For
more information about PMF, see Protected Management Frames on page 195.)
