  • Page 20: Basic Measurement Principles

The M20-EPS measurement column uses an air to electronic principle to detect and evaluate the fusion strength index of low density expanded thermoplastics. State of the art signal conditioning and processing results in high measurement, stability, repeatability and accuracy.
  • Page 21: Calibration Routine

3.2 – Calibration routine The calibration routine must be used periodically, usually before working shifts. A warm up period of 15 minutes is also required before calibration after powering up for the first time, time required for thermal equalization of all internal circuits. Follow the following procedures for system calibration: Place the needle in its resting pad.
  • Page 22: Measurement Routine

 The measuring head, composed of a handle and the sensor needle, should be handled with extreme care. It has sharp edges and it is a piercing object;  When not in use place the needle on its holder pad, located above the external solenoids. M20-EPS User Guide...
  • Page 23: Deep Measuring

3.4 – Deep Measuring For application on large workpieces and EPS blocks, AG20 needles are available with lengths between 100 and 1000mm. Picture 8 – AG20 needles for deep measurement The needles allow inspection of the fusion index at different depths, even in blocks with high densities.
  • Page 24: Creation Of Guide Holes

After the guide holes have been created, the needle should be inserted freely up to near the measuring point. At this point, the operator should apply slight force to the final perforation of the material (approximately 50mm wall), positioning the needle at the intended measurement point. M20-EPS User Guide...
  • Page 25: Statistical Analysis

3.5 – Statistical analysis The M20-EPS column computes and displays in real time statistical information about the sample population acquired from a part. This functionality is very important because allows the user to evaluate the average fusion strength index of a particular part, as well its index standard deviation.
  • Page 26: Tolerance Limits

3.6 – Tolerance limits User may set up to 3 process limits in the M20-EPS, defined as upper limit, middle limit and lower limit. The tolerance limits are displayed as fixed points in the bargraph and they define color zones for measurement approval/reproval.
