Introduction

Thank you for your purchase of an MH-61 Battery Charger. The MH-61 is used to recharge Nikon EN-EL5 rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.

Before use, read the warnings and other information in this manual and in the documentation for your Nikon EN-EL5 rechargeable battery.

Safety Precautions

To ensure proper operation, read this manual thoroughly before using this product. After reading, be sure to keep it where it will be read by all those who use the product.

Precautions for Use: MH-61 Battery Charger


The Nikon MH-61 can be used to re charge Nikon EN-EL5 rechargeable lithium-ion batteries only. Do not attempt to recharge any other batteries with the MH-61.

  • Once charging is complete, remove the EN-EL5 from the battery charger.
  • Unplug the power cable from the power outlet when not in use.
  • Do not short the charger terminals. Failure to observe this precaution could result in damage or overheating.
  • Be sure to use the charger face-up as shown in Figure 2, and do not tilt the charger while charging.

Precautions for Use: Nikon EN-EL5 Rechargeable Li-ion Battery

  • The battery is not fully charged at the factory. Charge the battery before use.
  • When recharging, the ambient temperature should be between 5–35°C (41–95°F).
  • The internal temperature of the battery may rise while the battery is in use. If you attempt to recharge the battery while the internal tem pera ture is elevated, the battery will not charge or will charge only partially. Wait for the battery to cool before charging.
  • Do not attempt to recharge a fully-charged battery. Failure to observe this precaution will result in reduced battery performance.
  • If you shake the MH-61 Battery Charger or touch the battery while the battery is charging, the resulting vibration or static electricity may in very rare instances cause the MH-61 to indicate that charging is complete although the battery is in fact not yet fully charged. Should this occur, remove the battery and re-insert it into the MH-61 to continue charging.
  • Should an abnormality or malfunction occur, discontinue use immediately and request repairs from your retailer or your Nikon representative.

  1. Plug the AC adapter plug into the battery charger (Figure 2-a).
  2. Plug the wall plug into a power outlet. The CHARGE lamp will start to glow.
  3. Place the Nikon EN-EL5 battery in the battery bay (Figure 2-b), matching the projections on the battery with the depressions in the battery charger. The CHARGE lamp will start to blink. Charging is complete when the CHARGE lamp stops blinking (Figure 2-c).
  4. Once charging is complete, remove the EN-EL5 (Figure 2-d) and unplug the wall plug from the power source.
