Chapter 5
Advanced Features
This chapter describes advanced functions and call capabilities of the Push-to-Talk (PTT) application.
5.1

Enabling the Bluetooth Connection

The radio uses Bluetooth LE version 4.2 and is compatible with smartphones with IOS version 9
onwards and Android version 4.3 onwards. Bluetooth enables the connection between the radio
and smartphone. Once your smartphone is connected to your radio over Bluetooth, the Talkabout
smartphone app enables communication options beyond push-to-talk on the radio. The Talkabout app
uses the T800 series radios as a modem to send messages, locations, and others through the radio
frequencies to the other T800 series radio users. Bluetooth enables data transmissions. It does not
enable audio transmission from the phone to radio or vice versa, nor is it used for connection to a
Bluetooth headset.
Prerequisites: Turn on Bluetooth on your radio to connect with the Talkabout app installed on your
smart phone.
Procedure:
1 Press the Menu/Lock button until the Bluetooth icon appears on your display screen.
The current Bluetooth setting flashes.
2 To change the setting, press the + or - buttons.
3 To set the Bluetooth connection and exit menu, press the PTT button.
You may continue the set-up by pressing the Menu/Lock button.
Once Bluetooth is turned on, the Bluetooth icon appears static for 5 seconds, then moves to
"Waiting to be Paired" mode.
NOTE: In "Waiting to be Paired" mode, the Bluetooth icon flashes fast for 90 sec
before switching off to save battery life. Before it switches off, you receive two warning
alerts (one beep at 60 seconds and two beeps at 90 sec) before Bluetooth turns off.
Follow the instructions in the Talkabout app menu under Bluetooth connection
to pair your radio.
The Bluetooth icon appears static on your display screen for 3 seconds if pairing is
successful, then moves into "Bluetooth connected" mode.
When Bluetooth is connected, the Bluetooth icon continues blinking slowly.
NOTE: Once your radio is paired to your phone, re-pairing happens automatically as
long as Bluetooth on your radio is turned on. To pair to another phone, follow the
steps in the Talkabout app menu to unpair. When the Bluetooth connection between
the radio and phone is lost for more than 90 sec, Bluetooth on radio is turned off to
preserve battery life. Follow steps 1 to step 3 to turn your radio on again.
