Preliminary Upgrade Steps

Become familiar with the upgrade process before attempting to execute.
Ensure that all the required materials are at hand.
Transfer upgrade software from the FTP server or Web Site to appropriate
TFTP Server directory.
If performing a manual upgrade using an SNMP manager, configure the
Docs_Software Group parameters in the DocsDev MIB for each cable
modem device being upgraded.
If implementing the automatic software upgrade procedure, ensure that the
LCn Provisioning Server has the proper upgrade file information.
Caution: When implementing the Automatic Upgrade process, do not
attempt to automatically upgrade more than 10 units during one upgrade
period, using a single-threaded server. A multithreaded server should be
limited to 25 units per upgrade session.

Upgrade Procedure

There are six basic steps to perform an upgrade to a CMTS 1000 using a
standard SNMP manager.

Ensure modems and headend systems can communicate with the
TFTP server.
Initiate upgrade process.
Upgrade and compile the latest cable modem SNMP MIB.
Verify upgrade completed successfully.
