the BayStack 660 PC Card in an Infrastructure Network
The instructions outlined in this guide are for installing the
BayStack 650 PC Card or the BayStack 660 PC Card in a laptop
computer with a Windows 95 or Windows 98 operating system
installed. Before you start, make sure that you:
Have a laptop computer with at least one Type II PCMCIA slot
Use a BayStack PC card and a BayStack access point that both
operate with the same technology. As an example, if you use
the BayStack 660 Wireless PC Card, use only the BayStack
660 Access Point; different models are not interoperable.
Have removed any existing BayStack PC Card from the
PCMCIA slot prior to starting the install process
If you are using Windows NT or need further information about
installing the BayStack PC card, refer to Using the BayStack 650/
660 Wireless LAN PC Card, included on the BayStack 600 Series
Documentation CD (Part Number 202788-x).

Installing the PC Card

Before you start, make sure that Windows is running, disable any virus detection software, and close all
open applications.

Insert the BayStack 600 Series Wireless LAN 802.11 Software CD into your CD-ROM drive to
automatically launch the BayStack 650 - BayStack 660 Drivers & Utilities Setup Version 3.40
installer. If the software does not automatically launch, access the CD and double-click on the
SETUP.EXE file.
Click on Next to open the next dialog box which asks you where you want to install the driver and

utilities (the recommended location is to choose the default destination) or type in another location.
Then the driver and the utility software loads.
Click on Next to open the dialog box which asks if you want to read the README file, and click on

Yes or No. If you choose Yes, the README file opens. Return to the dialog box.

Click on Next. You are prompted to restart the computer.

Remove the CD, click on Yes, and then click on Finish to restart your laptop computer.
After the computer restarts:

Insert and firmly seat the BayStack PC Card into the PCMCIA
slot of your laptop computer. (If you have more than one slot,
you can use either slot.)
Windows detects and identifies the card, opens and then
closes a New Hardware Found dialog box, and automatically
starts the Installation Wizard. The BayStack 650/660 NDIS
Driver Properties window opens with the Network tab
displayed.
Set up your PC card by following the instructions in either "Setting up the BayStack 650 PC
Card" or "Setting up the BayStack 660 PC Card."
Setting up the BayStack 650 PC Card
All access points and PC cards that communicate with each other must be configured with the same
SSID.

Click on Infrastructure Network in the Network Mode entry field.

Click on OK.
Installing the BayStack 650 PC Card or
Before installing the Baystack PC
Card, make sure your wireless
network:
Has been assessed using the Site
Survey Utilities software to
determine the number of access
points required.
Has the necessary access points
installed and configured using the
AP Manager software.
Has SSID strings assigned. You
must know the SSID string of the
access point to which your
BayStack PC card will be
communicating.
