Pulse Output

The pulse output is used to interface directly with the low energy circuit breaker trip coil. The pulse output
provides 24 V, 0.1 Ws pulses of 50 ms ON and 500 ms OFF.
The pulse output operates when any configured protection function trips. The trip energy for the trip coil is
stored in a capacitor built into the protection device. The capacitors are charged with the auxiliary power
supply/phase current. The pulses are repeated until the fault current falls below the set value. The pulse
output does not require any mapping with the protection functions.
In the presence of auxiliary power supply/phase current, the pulse output operates when it is mapped to a
binary input or external trip input. When the assigned input is triggered, the pulse output, remote flag, and
local flag operates until the auxiliary power supply/healthy phase current is available.
NOTE
i
i
If the relay is powered via phase currents, then time between 2 pulses depends on the impedance of the
trip coil and magnitude of the current.
When there is no load connected at the output of pulse output (no trip coil is connected), the pulse on
duration varies from 50 ms to 70 ms.
The pulse output cannot be triggered via rear/front communication protocols. Siemens recommends using
binary inputs for triggering the pulse output for remote trip applications.
The pulse output (along with remote and local flag) can be tested via device HMI on USB power. The option
is available under MAINTENANCE MENU ▶ Trip Pulse Test. On USB power, however the charging time
for the capacitor is higher than with auxiliary power or CT power. Also, if the consecutive commands are
provided in quick succession, then the relay displays INSUFFICIENT ENERGY as a pop-up message on the
device HMI.
