POWER SUPPLY


These walkie-talkies operate on 3 x 1.5V LR03/AAA batteries for each walkie-talkie (not included).
Remove the belt clip on the rear of the walkie-talkie will allow you to access the battery door.

To remove the belt clip
It is easier to fit the batteries without the belt clip in place.
Pull the tab forward (away from the handset) to release the belt clip. Then lift the belt clip off.

Installing batteries:

  1. Open the battery compartment located under the unit.
  2. Install the 3 x 1.5V AAA/LR03 batteries observing the polarity markings inside the battery compartment.
  3. Close the battery compartment.
  4. The walkie-talkies will automatically power on and are ready for use.

To fit the belt clip
Slide the belt clip down into the slot until it clicks into place.

Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged. Rechargeable batteries are to be removed from the toy before being charged. Rechargeable batteries are only to be charged under adult supervision. Different types of batteries or new and used batteries are not to be mixed. Only batteries of the same or equivalent type as recommended are to be used. Batteries are to be inserted with the correct polarity. Exhausted batteries are to be removed from the toy. The supply terminals are not to be short circuited. Do not throw batteries into a fire. Remove the batteries if you are not going to use the game for a long period of time. Battery shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like.


Malfunction or loss of memory may be caused by strong frequency interference or electrostatic discharge. Should any abnormal function occur, remove the batteries and insert them again.

SAFETY INFORMATION

Important safety warning

  • To reduce radio frequency exposure when you're using your TW48ND, hold the handset at least 5cm (2 inches) from your face.
  • Never use your walkie-talkies outdoors in a thunderstorm.
  • Don't use your PMR in the rain.
  • If your PMR becomes wet, turn it off and remove the battery pack. Dry the battery compartment and leave the battery cover off for a few hours.
  • Don't use the PMR until it is completely dry.
  • Keep the PMR out of the reach of babies and young children.
  • Battery should not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like.
  • The device complies with RF specifications when used near your body. Keep a distance of 2.5 cm from the body. Ensure that the device accessories, such as a device case and device holster, are not composed of metal components. Keep the device away from your body to meet the distance requirement.

    RISK OF EXPLOSION IF BATTERY IS REPLACED BY AN INCORRECT TYPE. DISPOSE OF USED BATTERIES ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTION.
  • Keep minimum distances around the apparatus for sufficient ventilation;
  • The ventilation should not be impeded by covering the ventilation openings with items, such as newspapers, table-cloths, curtains, etc.;
  • No naked flame sources, such as lighted candles, should be placed on the apparatus;
  • The use of apparatus in tropical and/or moderate climates.
  • Batteries should be disposed safely. Take them to the collection container in order to protect the environment;

FUNCTIONS

Switching the walkie-talkies on and off: To turn the walkie-talkies on and off, hold down the on/off button for 2 to 3 seconds. You will hear a musical tone each time to confirm.

Volume control: To adjust the loudspeaker volume, press the ▲ or ▼ button

Changing the channels:
Your walkie-talkie has eight channels, numbered 1 to 8. To communicate with other walkie-talkie users within the range, you must all have your walkie-talkie tuned to the same channel. Press the MENU button once. The current channel number flashes on the display. Press the ▲ or ▼ buttons to go to the channel you want. Press the PTT or MENU button to confirm the channel setting.

Changing the subchannel: If there are many device users near you, there is a chance that some of the users are operating on the same radio channel. When using CTCSS, a low frequency tone (between 67-250Hz) will be transmitted along with the voice signal. Press the MENU button twice, the current CTCSS code will flash on the display. Press the up/down button to choose among the 99 available codes. Press the PTT button to confirm and return to stand-by mode.

Speaking to another walkie-talkie user: Press and hold the PTT button. Walkie-Talkie transmission is 'one way-at-a-time' - while you are speaking, you cannot receive a transmission. Make sure to release the PTT button when you are done talking; this will let your partner communicate back.

Ringtone: You can send ring tone to other handsets within range and tuned to the same channel (and sub-channel if applicable) by short pressing the PTT button. To change the melody, press the MENU button 4 times until "CA" is displayed on the screen. Press the UP▲ or Down ▼ button to choose among 10 available call tones. Press the PTT button to confirm and return to stand-by mode.

Scan (SCAN):
Press and hold during 3 seconds the UP ▲ button: "SCAN" function indicator will appear on the display and the device will scan continuously the channels from 1 to 8. Once an active channel is found, the scanning will stop automatically and you can start transmitting / receiving. Note: If you press PTT button while listening to a found channel, the device will go back to stand-by mode on the found channel.

Hands free function (VOX): Press the MENU button three times, the current VOX setting will flash on the display and the VOX icon will display, Press up ▲ button to set the VOX sensitivity level between 1 and 3 level (level 3 is the high sensitive level).Press down button until "OF" appears on the display to turn VOX OFF. Press the PTT button to confirm and return to stand-by mode. In VOX mode, the radio will transmit a signal when it is activated by your voice or other sound around you. VOX Operation is not recommended if you plan to use your device in a noisy or windy environment. Note: VOX mode will be over ride when you press the PTT button.

Monitor:Press and hold the DOWN ▼ button about 3 seconds to active monitor. Release the DOWN ▼ button return to standby mode.

Roger Beep: Once you released the PTT button, the device will send out a roger beep to confirm that you have stopped talking. Press 5 times the MENU button, "RO" will be displayed. Press the UP▲/Down▼ button to turn on/off roger beep. Press The PTT button to confirm your selection and return to the stand-by mode.

Backlit display:Press any button except for the MENU button to activate the back light of the LCD display. The back light will light on about 5 seconds.

Lock & Unlock the device: Press and hold MENU button for 3 seconds to lock/unlock the device.

Battery saving function: When the device has not been used for 6 seconds, the economy mode is automatically activated. This does not affect the reception of transmission and the standby mode is automatically re-activated as soon as a signal is detected.

Transmitting range

  • The talk range depends on environmental and terrain. It will be greatest (up to about 5 km or 3.1 miles) in wide open spaces, without obstructions such as hills or buildings. If you are having issues with communicating, it is recommended to be in a location with less traffic and less surrounding noise.
  • Don't try to use two walkie-talkies which are less than 1.5m (5 feet) apart. lf you do, you may get interference.
  • PMR446 is an open-license band - always identify yourself when transmitting, as other people may be communicating on the same channel.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

Symptom Solution

No power

  • Battery is low or not fitted correctly.
  • The walkie-talkie is not switched on.

Weak reception/ no reception/ noisy reception

  • Battery is low or not fitted correctly.
  • Other user is not within range.
  • The walkie-talkies are not tuned to the same channel.
  • The volume is too low: Speak in a normal voice, 5-8cm (2-3 inches) away from the microphone.
  • Local conditions are impairing reception: move to a different location away from obstructions and as high as possible.
  • You are holding the walkie-talkie too close to your body.
  • Other user is not transmitting.
  • Other user is too close.
  • There is interference from other users on the same channel: agree with the other users to use a different channel.

Cannot change channels

  • Battery is low or not fitted correctly.

Only use a soft, slightly damp cloth to clean the unit. Do not use detergent. Do not to expose the unit to direct sunlight or any other heat source. Do not immerse the unit in water. Do not dismantle or drop the unit. Do not try to twist or bend the unit.
