INSTALLATION
The Base Network may contain a combination of up to 92 subnetworks or
nodes, providing Repeaters are used between segments of 32 RS485 drivers.

• The node switch sets the address of the subnet-
work. This can be any unique number between 1
and 92.
• The base network is always network 99 when
referenced from a subnetwork.
When operating as a router, the Universal LINC485
only passes data (packets) through to the main
network if a subnetwork number is included in the
destination address. When no subnetwork address is
included, it is assumed the device is within the
subnetwork.
When the Universal LINC485 is operating as a
repeater, a different set of parameters apply:
• The node address of all devices on the input side
(LAN PORT 1) must be lower than devices on
the output side (LAN PORT 2).

• The node address setting is ignored when
operating as a repeater at 19.2 kbaud.
The node addresses must be considered when design-
ing the application. Failure to allow for the addition
of repeaters and node addresses could require that the
application be reprogrammed to include these.
Communication Rate
The Communication Rate sets the Universal
LINC485 to communicate at the network transfer
speed. This can be either 19.2 or 50 kbaud. Set
