Using the flash

Use the flash when you take pictures at night, indoors, or outdoors in heavy shadows.
Flash settings are limited in some capture modes.
Flash modes Flash fires
Auto When the lighting conditions require it.
Off
Never.
Every time you take a picture. Use when the subject is in shadow or is "backlit."
Fill
In low light, hold the camera steady or use a tripod. (Not available in Smart
Capture mode.)
If Red-eye Pre-flash is turned off,
Red-
the flash fires once; the camera
eye
automatically corrects red-eye.

Wide angle
26.9 ft (8.2 m) @ ISO 800 in Smart Capture mode
19 ft (5.8 m) @ ISO 400 in P mode
Telephoto
14.4 ft (4.4 m) @ ISO 800 in Smart Capture mode
10.2 ft (3.1 m) @ ISO 400 in P mode

button repeatedly to scroll
through flash modes. (See flash modes below.)

If Red-eye Pre-flash is on, the flash fires
once so the eyes become accustomed to the
flash, then again when the picture is taken.
