1) Connect the system power cords from the server and I/O drawers to the PDU with an IEC 320
type receptacle.
2) Attach the PDU input power cord and plug it into the power source.
3) If your system uses two PDUs for redundancy, complete the following steps:
v If your system has two power supplies, attach one power supply to each of the two PDUs.
v If your system has four power supplies, plug E1 and E2 to PDU A and E3 and E4 to PDU
B.
Note: Confirm that the system is in standby mode. The green power status indicator on the
front control panel is flashing, and the dc out indicator lights on the power supplies are
flashing. If none of the indicators are flashing, check the power cord connections.

Completing the server setup

Learn about the tasks you must complete to set up your managed system.
If your system was preinstalled with an operating system, you must exit MDC (manufacturing default
configuration) mode so that you can open a console and access your operating system. To exit MDC
mode, complete the following steps:
1. In the navigation area, expand the Systems Management folder and clickServers.
2. In the contents area, select the managed system.
3. From the tasks menu, select Properties.
4. Click the Power On Parameters tab.
5. In the Partition start policy field, select User-Initiated and click OK.
6. Select Operations > Power On.
7. Select Normal and click OK.
To power on a managed system, choose one of the following navigation options depending on the
interface type of the HMC.
If you are using a HMC Classic or HMC Enhanced interface, complete the following steps:
In the navigation area, select Systems Management > Servers.

3. Click Tasks > Operations > Power On. Follow any additional on-screen instructions.
If you are using an HMC Enhanced+ interface, complete the following steps:

3. In the navigation area, click System Actions > Operations > Power On. Follow any additional
on-screen instructions.
