Such distances can allow for others outside of your immediate area to access your network. Unlike wired network data, your wireless data transmissions can be received well beyond your walls by anyone with a compatible adapter.

These features can be found by clicking on the Maintenance heading in the main menu of the browser interface. Viewing Wireless Router Status Information The Router Status menu provides status and usage information.
  • Page 53 Domain Name Server This field displays the Domain Name Server addresses being used by the router. A Domain Name Server translates human-language URLs, such as http://www.netgear.com, into IP addresses. LAN Port These parameters apply to the Local (LAN) port of the router.

The default is NETGEAR. Region This field displays the geographic region where the router being used. It may be illegal to use the wireless features of the router in some parts of the world.

    The routing software of the WNR834B router is stored in FLASH memory, and can be upgraded as new software is released by NETGEAR. Upgrade files can be downloaded from the NETGEAR Web site. If the upgrade file is compressed (.ZIP file), you must first extract the file before sending it to the router.

These wireless computers must also have the correct SSID and WEP settings configured on the Wireless Settings page to access the wireless network.

Under normal circumstances, the router has adequate routing information after it has been configured for Internet access, and you do not need to configure additional static routes. You must configure static routes only for unusual cases such as multiple routers or multiple IP subnets located on your network.
