Warning:
This unit is equipped with an internal combustion engine and should not be used on or near any unimproved forest-
covered, brush-covered or grass-covered land unless the engine's exhaust system is equipped with a spark arrester meeting
applicable local or state laws (if any). If a spark arrester is used, it should be maintained in effective working order by the operator.
In the State of California the above is required by law (Section 4442 of the California Public Resources Code). Other states may have
similar laws. Federal laws apply on federal lands. A spark arrester for the muffler is available through your nearest engine authorized

Slope Operation Slopes are a major factor related to slip and fall accidents which can result in severe injury. Operation on slopes requires extra caution. If you feel uneasy on a slope, do not mow it. For your safety, use the slope gauge included as part of this manual to measure slopes before operating this unit on a sloped or hilly area. - Page 5 SECTION 2: SLOPE GAUGE Use this page as a guide to determine slopes where you may not operate safely. Do not operate your lawn mower on such slopes.
- Page 6 SECTION 3: SETTING UP This unit is shipped without gasoline IMPORTANT: or oil in the engine. Fill up gasoline and oil as instructed in the accompanying engine manual before operating your mower. Spark Plug Wire 1. Disconnect spark plug wire from the spark plug, and ground it against the engine.

Starter Rope 1. The starter rope is attached to the engine. Additional rope may be wound around the starter handle. If so, unwind the rope from the handle. 2. With the spark plug wire disconnected and grounded, depress the blade control handle and pull the rope out of the engine. -

• For best results, do not cut wet grass. • New grass, thick grass, or wet grass may require a narrower cut. • For a healthier lawn, never cut off more than one-third of the total length of the grass. •... -
Page 11: General Recommendations
1. Disconnect spark plug wire. Drain gasoline from the lawn mower, or place a piece of plastic under the gas cap. 2. Tip the mower so that it rests on the housing. Keep the side with the air cleaner facing up. Hold the mower firmly. - Page 12 NOTE: Cutting grass in sandy soil condition causes abrasive wear to the blade. Off-Season Storage The following steps should be taken to prepare your lawn mower for storage. 1. Clean and lubricate mower thoroughly as described in the lubrication instructions.
