This unit is equipped with an internal combustion engine and should not be used on or near any unimproved forest-
covered, brush-covered or grass-covered land unless the engine's exhaust system is equipped with a spark arrester meeting
applicable local or state laws (if any). If a spark arrester is used, it should be maintained in effective working order by the operator.
In the State of California the above is required by law (Section 4442 of the California Public Resources Code). Other states may have
similar laws. Federal laws apply on federal lands. A spark arrester for the muffler is available through your nearest engine authorized

    Assembling Your Lawn Mower Operating Your Lawn Mower This Operator’s Manual is an important part of your new lawn mower. It will help you assemble, prepare and maintain the unit for best performance. Please read and understand what it says.

    SECTION 1: IMPORTANT SAFE OPERATION PRACTICES WARNING: This symbol points out important safety instructions which, if not followed, could endanger the personal safety and/or property of yourself and others. Read and follow all instructions in this manual before attempting to operate this machine. Failure to comply with these instructions may result in personal injury.

    Slope Operation Slopes are a major factor related to slip and fall accidents which can result in severe injury. Operation on slopes requires extra caution. If you feel uneasy on a slope, do not mow it. For your safety, use the slope gauge included as part of this manual to measure slopes before operating this unit on a sloped or hilly area.

    SECTION 2: SLOPE GAUGE Use this page as a guide to determine slopes where you may not operate safely. Do not operate your lawn mower on such slopes.

    Tools Required • A set of adjustable wrenches NOTE: Reference to right, left, front or back of the lawn mower is from the operating position only, unless otherwise stated. Spark Plug Wire 1. Disconnect spark plug wire from the spark plug, and ground it against the engine.
  • Page 7 Attaching Lower Handle 1. Lift the rear of the deck and place it on a block securely. 2. Place the lower handle, with the pointed end face down, over the handle bracket assemblies and position each handle bracket assembly stud into the bottom hole in the lower handle.

    For subsequent operation of the lawn mower, it is very important that you check the level of oil and gasoline before operation.

    2. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and ground against the engine. Using Your Lawn Mower Be sure the lawn is clear of stones, sticks, wire, or other objects which could damage the lawn mower IMPORTANT: or the engine. Such objects could be accidently thrown by the mower in any direction and cause serious personal injury to the operator and others.

    SECTION 5: MAKING ADJUSTMENTS WARNING: Always stop engine, disconnect spark plug, and ground against engine before performing adjustments. Cutting Height Each wheel has a height adjustment lever to change the cutting height of the mower. 1. Depress the lever towards the wheel and slide the lever assembly to desired position for a change in cutting height.

    The use of water will result in shortened life and reduce serviceability. 1. Disconnect spark plug wire. Drain gasoline from the lawn mower, or place a piece of plastic under the gas cap. 2. Tip the mower so that it rests on the housing. Keep the side with the air cleaner facing up. Hold the mower firmly.

    IMPORTANT: Off-Season Storage The following steps should be taken to prepare your lawn mower for storage. 1. Clean and lubricate mower thoroughly as described in the lubrication instructions. We do not recommend the use of a pressure washer or garden hose to clean your unit.
