Warning:
This unit is equipped with an internal combustion engine and should not be used on or near any unimproved forest-
covered, brush-covered or grass-covered land unless the engine's exhaust system is equipped with a spark arrester meeting
applicable local or state laws (if any). If a spark arrester is used, it should be maintained in effective working order by the operator.
In the State of California the above is required by law (Section 4442 of the California Public Resources Code). Other states may have
similar laws. Federal laws apply on federal lands. A spark arrester for the muffler is available through your nearest engine authorized

Never operate mower with damaged safety devices. Failure to do so, can result in personal injury. 20. Muffler and engine become hot and can cause a burn. Do not touch. 21. Only use parts and accessories made for this machine by the manufacturer. -
Page 4: Slope Operation
Slope Operation Slopes are a major factor related to slip and fall accidents which can result in severe injury. Operation on slopes requires extra caution. If you feel uneasy on a slope, do not mow it. For your safety, use the slope gauge included as part of this manual to measure slopes before operating this unit on a sloped or hilly area. - Page 5 SECTION 2: SLOPE GAUGE Use this page as a guide to determine slopes where you may not operate safely. Do not operate your lawn mower on such slopes.

Page 6: Contents Of Hardware Pack
This unit is shipped WITHOUT GASOLINE or OIL. After assembly, service engine with gasoline and oil as instructed in the separate engine manual packed with your unit. NOTE: Reference to right, left, front or back of the lawn mower is from the operating position only, unless otherwise stated. - Page 7 Spark Plug Wire 1. Disconnect spark plug wire from the spark plug, and ground it against the engine. 2. If engine is equipped with a rubber boot, attach rubber boot to a bolt on the engine to ground. See Figure 2. Attaching Lower Handle (Hardware A) 1.
- Page 8 Attaching Brake Cable 1. Make certain the blade control handle is on the top of the upper handle. 2. The brake cable is attached to the engine, and has a “Z” fitting on the loose end. Route the brake cable over the lower handle.
- Page 9 Attaching Chute Deflector (Hardware D) CAUTION: Do not run your lawn mower without chute deflector or an approved grass catcher in place. The deflector will deflect a projectile thrown by the blade into the lawn. The chute deflector provided is a safety device. Do not operate the mower unless the chute deflector has been properly installed.

2. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and ground against the engine. Using Your Lawn Mower Be sure the lawn is clear of stones, sticks, wire, or other objects which could damage the lawn mower IMPORTANT: or the engine. Such objects could be accidently thrown by the mower in any direction and cause serious personal injury to the operator and others. -

Always observe safety rules when performing any maintenance. • The warranty on this lawn mower does not cover items that have been subjected to operator abuse or negligence. To receive full value from the warranty, operator must maintain the lawn mower as instructed here. -
Page 12: Cleaning Mower
1. Disconnect spark plug wire. Drain gasoline from the lawn mower, or place a piece of plastic under the gas cap. 2. Tip the mower so that it rests on the housing. Keep the side with the air cleaner facing up. Hold the mower firmly. - Page 13 NOTE: Cutting grass in sandy soil condition causes abrasive wear to the blade. Off-Season Storage The following steps should be taken to prepare your lawn mower for storage. 1. Clean and lubricate mower thoroughly as described in the lubrication instructions.
