The ONT is provided with a 7-conductor Insulation Displacement
Connection (IDC) connector. To make connections from the LPS to
the IDC connector complete the following steps:
1. Remove the IDC connector from the inner electronics box if
installed.
2. To terminate the 2 Power leads and, if needed, the 5 alarm
status leads in the IDC, cut wire to length but do not strip
back the insulation. Raise the levers on all of the terminals in
the IDC connector. Insert one wire at a time. Using a flat
screwdriver or similar tool lower the lever. Internally the IDC
connectors penetrate the insulation to make the electrical
contact.
3. Provide a service wire loop if required and then tie wrap the
cable at the entry to the Outer Enclosure.
Install Inner Module
WARNING: Do not look into the ends of optical fibers. Exposure
to invisible LASER radiation may cause serious
retinal damage or even blindness. Verify the optical
source is disabled through the use of an optical
power meter before handling optical fibers.
To install the Inner Module in the Outer Enclosure complete the
following steps:
1. Place the Inner Module in the outer enclosure by engaging the
two indentations at the top of the Inner Module under the
retainers of the outer enclosure.
2. Lower the bottom edge of the Inner Module into the outer
enclosure.
3. Open the door of the Inner Module and insert the ground
screw (M5 12 mm). Tighten to provide a good ground
connection.
4. Next, tighten the retaining screw.
5. Thread the Fiber Pigtail through the molded guide. Remove the
Dust cover and attach to the SC/APC (or SC/PC) connector.
Check that there are no bends in the fiber less than 30 mm
(1.2 inches) radius or 60 mm (~2.5 inches) diameter. When the
maintenance door is closed it should not come in contact with
the fiber.
6. Install the IDC Power/Alarm Connector into the base on the
printed circuit board.
POTS Connection
The telephone service or POTS connections can be made with either
IDC connectors or RJ-11 connectors.
If the IDC connectors are used the RJ-11 jacks provide a diagnostic
test point. Inserting an RJ-11 jack (i.e., telephone cable or telephone
test set) will connect the telephone set to the ONT and also
disconnect the subscriber service from the ONT providing fault
isolation to the SFU or premises wiring.
To terminate the POTS lines on the IDC connectors complete the
following:
1. Trim each wire to length but do not strip insulation. Identify
each pair in the service cable.
2. Lift the clear plastic cover marked T(ip)/R(ing) in red/green
3. Push the appropriate wire into each of the two holes and then
firmly depress the cover to make the connection.
POTS can also be connected directly to the RJ-11 jack. In this case
the IDC connectors become isolated and are not used.

Ethernet Connection
If the ONT is to support up to 1 Gigabit operation (10/100/1000)
the cable used should be rated CAT-6. Strip back the jacket of the
subscriber Ethernet cable and connect the 4-pair twisted wires to
the RJ-45 Plug using an RJ-45 crimper. Insert the terminated
RJ-45 jack into the RJ-45
