Quick User Guide
This guide covers the basic features and operation of
the Polycom model VVX 500 and VVX 501 telephones
with Polycom UC Firmaware 5.5.1 or later and SIP
5.8.0 or later. The functionality is basically the same for
these two models.

Touch Screen
Tap to highlight and select screen items. To scroll, touch the screen,
and swipe the screen up, down, right or left. To return to a previous
screen, tap Back.
Phone Views
View any of the screens from other screens, depending on the
number of calls the phone has, with one of the following:
• Press
to view Home, Lines, Calls, or Active Call screens.
• With an Active call in progress, swipe the screen from left to right
to view the Lines screen.
• Home View - Displays multiple icons to access phone functions.
Available any time.
Touch and hold the Page Indicator (
display fewer or more icons.
From Home view, tap the phone Line to display phone Lines and
Favorites. Contacts can be dialed by tapping their name.
To go back, tap Close.
• Lines View - Displays phone lines, Favorites and conditional soft
keys. This is the default view and is available any time.
If the phone is idle, tap a phone Line to access the Dialer.
• Calls View - Displays all Active and Held calls. Available with
Active and Held calls in progress.
To switch between Lines and Calls view, swipe the screen right or
left.
Calls View, continued:
The following colors indicate the available Call statuses:
• Dark Green
• Dark Blue
• Bright Green
• Bright Blue
Tap a call to highlight it and a soft key to apply to the call.
• Active Call View - Displays the Active call in progress, the
name and number of the person, the duration of the call and
any call control options. Available with an Active call.
Place a Call
Place a call with one of the following methods:

• Use the handset or press
number and tap
• From Lines view, tap a phone line. Enter the phone number
and tap
• From Home view, tap New Call. Enter the phone number
and tap
• Select a Favorite from the Home screen.
• Select a contact from the Recent Calls.
• Select a contact from the Contact Directory.
Answer a Call
Answer a call with one of the following methods:
• Handset - Pick up the handset.
• Speakerphone - Press
• Headset - Press
To answer a new call while on an Active call, tap Answer. The
current call is placed on hold.
Manage multiple calls from Lines and Calls view. To switch
between the two views, swipe the screen.
Hold and Resume a Call
Multiple calls can be held at one time.
• To hold a call, tap Hold.
• To resume a held call, tap Resume.
End a Call:
To end an Active call, replace the handset, press
or tap End Call.
To end a Held call, navigate to Calls view and highlight the Held
call. Tap Resume > End Call.
- Active call.
- Incoming and held calls.
- Active call is highlighted.
- Incoming or held call is highlighted.
