Transmission Drive Belt
Replacement
REMOVE THE OLD BELT
1. Turn off the PTO, stop the engine, block the tires, and
engage the parking brake. Safely raise the rear of the
rider and support with jack stands or an over head
hoist.
2. Remove the mower deck.
3. Loosen the engine belt guide.
4. Disconnect the idler arm spring (A, Figure 28) from
the frame.
5. Remove the cotter pin and washer (E, Figure 28) from
the rear clutch rod (D) and disconnect the rod from
the idler arm assembly(B).
6. Remove idler arm mount bolt (C, Figure 28) and
space that attach the idler arm assembly (B) to the
frame and let the long arm hang on the belt.
7. Note the position of the idler pulley belt guide relative
to the idler arm. Loosen the idler pulley belt guide
and remove the belt
8. Unplug the PTO clutch plug (C, Figure 28). Remove
the capscrew (F) and related hardware securing the
PTO clutch to the crankshaft. Remove the clutch.
9. Remove the drive belt from the engine pulley (B,
Figure 29) transmission input pulley. Take care not to
damage the plastic cooling fan blades of the transmis-
sion.
INSTALL THE NEW BELT
10. Install a new drive belt onto the idler assembly and
orient the pulley belt guide as noted in Step 7.
11. Install the belt onto the transmission drive pulley and
engine PTO pulley (B, Figure 29).
12. Install idler arm assembly (B, Figure 28) and tighten
idler arm bolt (C).
13. Install the PTO clutch using the original hardware as
shown in Figure 29. Be sure the engine pulley key
(A) is installed as shown in the inset. Torque the
crankshaft bolt (F) to 45-50 ft-lbs (61-67 Nm).
14. Reconnect the idler arm spring (A, Figure 28).
