    Safety Instructions Warnings, Cautions, and Notes Warnings must be followed carefully to avoid bodily injury. Cautions must be observed to avoid damage to your equipment. Notes contain important information and useful tips on the operation of your product. Safety Instructions Read all of the instructions in this section when setting up and using this product.

    Using the Control Panel Control Panel Functions Buttons Buttons Function P On Turns this product on and off. Moves the print head to the ink check position when an ink cartridge that is empty or nearly empty is detected. Moves the print head to the ink cartridge replacement position.
  • Page 5 Error On or Indicates that an error has Flashing occurred. (For details, see “Troubleshooting” on page 13.) Flashing Indicates that the ink level in a cartridge is low. Continue to use it until it is empty. Indicates that an ink cartridge is empty or missing.

    Copying This section describes how to make copies using the control panel. Loading Paper Open the paper support, then slide out the extension, and then open the feeder guard. Lower the output tray and slide out the extension. Slide out the left edge guide so that the distance between the two edge guides is slightly wider than the paper you are going to load.

    Placing a Photo or Document on the Document Table Press the P On button to turn on this product. Open the document cover. Place the original document facing down on the document table. Make sure that the document is properly aligned.

    Note: Do not pull the paper out of this product. The copied image may not have exactly the same size as the original. If the ink light flashes to indicate low ink while you are copying, you can either continue making copies until the ink runs out, or stop making copies and then replace the ink cartridge.

    Replacing an Ink Cartridge To replace an ink cartridge using the follow the steps below. Note: The illustrations show replacement of the Cyan ink cartridge. Replace the ink cartridge appropriate to your situation. Make sure that this product is on. The On light should be on, but not flashing.
  • Page 12 Warning: If ink gets on your hands, wash them thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets into your eyes, flush them immediately with water. If discomfort or vision problems continue after a thorough flushing, see a doctor immediately. Place the replacement ink cartridge vertically into the cartridge holder, then push the ink cartridge down until it clicks into place.

    Maintenance Checking the Print Head Nozzles and Remaining Ink Levels If you find that the printed image is unexpectedly faint or some dots in the printed image are missing, checking the print head nozzles helps you to identify the problem. You can also check how much ink remains in each ink cartridge.

    Aligning the Print Head If you notice vertical lines are not aligned properly on the nozzle check result, you may be able to solve this problem by aligning the print head. You can align the print head from the control panel, or from your computer by using the Print Head Alignment utility included with your product software.

    Troubleshooting Using the Error Light and Other Lights to Diagnose Errors You can identify many common problems by checking the Error light and other lights on the control panel. If the product stops working and the Error light is on, use the following table to diagnose the problem, and then try the recommended solution.
