Possible Causes
Belt tension too loose causing belt
slippage.
Belt or sheaves contaminated with
oil, grease, and chemicals.

Drive belt adjusted too tight or over
tightened.
Drive belt under tightened and
slipping causing heat.
Worn sheave grooves (check with
groove gauge) causing belts to
bottom in the sheave grooves and
not send power unless over
tightened.
Failed bearings or poor bearing
maintenance.
General Information
Corrections / Remedy
Properly install a new original equipment belt
and adjust the belt tension and idler spring.
Repair cause of oil, grease, and chemicals.
Clean the belt and sheave grooves with a
degreasing solvent that is not flammable or
toxic.
Wash with a mild soap and water solution.
Properly adjust the belt tension.
Corrections / Remedy
Properly adjust the belt tension.

Replace the worn sheaves.
Properly install a new original equipment belt
and adjust the belt tension and idler spring.
