Fish Tank
This one-gallon fish tank makes a colorful, creative and
easy-to-care-for home for guppies, tetras, bettas, mollies, neons
and many other varieties of freshwater tropical fish.
Here are some basic steps to get your fish home started.
(To ensure that everything goes swimmingly, be sure consult a
tropical fish guide.)
1. Fill the Fish Tank with lukewarm tap water. Add a dechlorinating
water conditioner so that the chlorine in the tap water cannot harm
your new fish friends. (Be sure to select the proper dechlorinating
conditioner for the type of fish you have; follow directions with the
conditioner.)

Enviro Tank
The Enviro Tank provides a special environment in the center of the
Fish Tank that you create! Because the Enviro Tank fits into an inner
chamber within the Fish Tank, it never gets wet. So the kinds of
scenes, designs and creations you can make are endless! With this
kit, you can create colorful crystal formations that make a realistic
backdrop around which the fish can swim. You'll find other
suggestions for environments below.
To Create Crystal Formations
Crystals of the variety you are about to create are formed by
nucleation, a repeated process of connecting atoms or molecules.
Crystal formations are fun to make and fascinating to watch as they
gradually grow into colorful designs of your own design!
1. Fill the Enviro Tank with water (approximately 2 1/2 cups), then
pour the water from the tank into a pan or bowl. Stir in 5 cups of
sugar.
2. Have a parent heat the water on the stove until boiling. Allow the
water to cool for 10-15 minutes or until it has cooled.
Carry out steps 3-5 while waiting for the water to cool. Use paper
towels on a flat surface for your work area.
3. Tie a knot at one end of 6 lengths
of string. Fit other end of string
through holes in platform. Test knots
to make sure they don't fit through
the platform holes.

Other Enviro Tank Ideas
There are many other environments you can make with the
Enviro Tank...
- Place a photo of a favorite friend or family member inside.
- Fill with colorful rocks or marbles you've collected.
- Crinkle some aluminum foil and make a design on it.
- Create a natural terrarium of soil and plants.
- Sand art with multicolored sands that can be purchase at
craft stores.
- Add a second living environment with bugs and other
creatures.
- The possibilities are limited only to what your imagination
can come up with!
Care and Maintenance of the Crystal Fish Tank
* To do so, remove the Enviro Tank, take off the Fish Tank Lid,
and remove the fish from the tank with the net included with
this kit. Place fish in a lukewarm bowl of water.
* Remove Fish Tank from base, and pour out the old water. Fill
the Fish Tank with lukewarm fresh water, and add dechlorinating
water conditioner. When water is ready (according to the
directions with the dechlorinating water conditioner), put fish
back into tank, place tank onto base and cover with lid. Place
Enviro Tank back into inner chamber.
* To clean Enviro Tank and dissolve existing crystal formations,
rinse with very warm water, then clean with soapy water and dry.
9
2. Allow the water to sit for an hour so that it can settle at room
temperature. Then, it's move-in time: add the fish to the tank.
3. Place the Fish Tank Lid on top.
4. Feed the fish through the door on the Fish Tank Lid. Many
tropical freshwater fish eat tropical flake food that you can buy at
pet stores, or large retail or grocery stores. Some fish, like Bettas,
require special food. Check with the pet shop where you bought the
fish or a tropical fish guide for the right food for your fish.
Note:
Keep in mind that if it gets hot or cold in the room where fish live,
the water will also change temperature. Most tropical fish like water
temperatures of between 72 and 78 degrees. Never place your
tank by a window or in direct sunlight, which could case the water
to overheat and be dangerous to the fish.
* Lights Up
* Lights Up
- Press the On/Off button to turn on the lights.
Watch as the RED, BLUE, GREEN LED light up and blink randomly.
- Press the Mode button once to lock the RED, GREEN, BLUE lights.
- Press the On/Off button again to shut off the lights.
* Magna-fishes
- Get up close and personal with your fish by viewing them through
the two magnifying lenses on the Fish Tank!

Battery Safety Guidelines
- To prevent battery leakage: Be sure to insert batteries correctly.
- Batteries should be replaced by adult.
- Never dispose of batteries in fire as this may cause them to
explode.
- Do not mix old and new batteries (replace all batteries at the
same time).
- Do not mix Alkaline, standard (Carbon-Zinc) or rechargeable
(Nickel-Cadmium) batteries (or equivalent). Only batteries of the
same or equivalent type as recommended are to be used.
- Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged.
- Always remove exhausted or dead batteries from product.
Remove batteries from product which is not going to be used
for a long time.
Otherwise the batteries may leak and cause damage.
- The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited.
- Make sure battery compartment is secure.
- Do not immerse battery operated toys. Wipe clean only.
Battery Disposal
- Do not dispose of the battery in your regular household waste.
- Contact your local waste management officials for information
on environmentally sound disposal of rechargeable batteries.
- If a battery leak develops, avoid contact with leaking fluid.
Place the damaged battery in a plastic bag for proper disposal.
- If fluid comes in to contact with skin or eyes, wash with cool
water for at least 15 mins.

11. When the crystal is growth is complete, remove the Enviro Tank
Lid/Platform holding the attached formations. Empty out the sludgy
water, and rinse the tank with warm water. Place the Lid/Platform
(with attached crystals) back on the tank, then place the tank into
the inner chamber of the Fish Tank. Your colorful crystal formations
now make an awesome backdrop for the fish to swim around!
- To preserve your crystal formations, it's best to keep them in a
sealed container. Keep them in a dry place - humidity tends to
dissolve the formations.
- If you run out of string and food coloring, use lengths of cotton or
wool yarn or string (not nylon), and common food coloring found at
grocery stores.

Crystal Fish Tank
INSTRUCTION MANUAL
Crystal Fish Tank
It's a light-up fish tank with a very exciting twist...it's actually
two separate tanks - one for your fish and one for whatever
environment you wish! Watch as your fish swim around a
background of incredible crystal formations that you create!
You can also design your own unique backgrounds – cool
scenes, fun photos, colorful displays – in the Enviro Tank,
which you can remove and replace without ever disturbing the
fish tank!
You Will Need:
For the light show:
* 4 AA alkaline batteries (Phillips screwdriver required for installation)
For the Fish Tank:
* Freshwater tropical fish
* Dechlorinating water conditioner
* Fish food
To make crystal formations:
* Water
* Sugar
* Paper towels
* Spoon
To create your own unique environments:
* Your imagination (and any items it takes to bring your ideas to life!)
1
4. To cut strings to proper length, use a ruler and cut one of the
platform strings with safety scissors so that it is 5 1/2 inches long.
Repeat for the other platform strings.
5. Fill a small cup with sugar.
6. When the boiled sugar/water solution has cooled, pour it into the
Enviro Tank.
7. Dip strings into the solution to wet them and then roll them into
the cup of sugar to coat them. This will create the seed crystals
that will ensure the growth of crystal formations. Allow strings to
dry on the paper towels.
8. Add some food dye into the sugar water solution and stir well.
9. Fit Platform onto Enviro Tank Lid and submerge strings into the
solution. Use a spoon to push the strings down. Note: Be sure
strings do not touch the bottom of the tank. Fit lid onto tank.
10. Place the Enviro Tank where it will not be disturbed and is free
from vibrations. In a day, or two, you will see the crystal formations
starting to grow as seed crystals on the string draw other sugar
molecules from the super saturated water. Let the tank sit for 10-14
days to allow the crystals to fully form.
