4. 1 | Configuring Windows 95/ 98/ Me

1. Access your Net work set t ings by clicking
[ St art ] , choose [ Set t ings] , and t hen select
[ Cont rol Panel] .
2. In t he Cont rol Panel, locat e and double-click
t he [ Net work] icon.
3. Highlight t he TCP/ IP line t hat has been
assigned t o your net work card on t he
[ Conf igurat ion] t ab of t he [ Net work]
propert ies window. (see net work dialog box t o
t he right )
4. Next , click t he [ Propert ies] but t on t o view
t hat adapt er' s TCP/ IP set t ings.
5. From t he TCP/ IP Propert ies dialog box, click
t he [ Obt ain an IP address aut omat ically]
opt ion. (see TCP/ IP dialog box t o t he
right )
6. Next click on t he [ Gat eway] t ab and verif y
t he Gat eway f ield is blank. If t here are IP
addresses list ed in t he Gat eway sect ion,
highlight each one and click [ Remove]
unt il t he sect ion is empt y.
7. Click t he [ OK] but t on t o close t he TCP/ IP
Propert ies window.
8. On t he Net work Propert ies Window, click
t he [ OK] but t on t o save t hese new
changes.
NOTE : Windows may ask you f or t he
original Windows inst allat ion disk or
addit ional f iles. Check f or t he f iles at
c: \ windows\ opt ions\ cabs, or insert your Windows CD-ROM int o your CD-ROM drive and
check t he correct f ile locat ion, f or example, D: \ win98, D: \ win9x. (Assume " D" is your
CD-ROM drive).
9. Windows may prompt you t o rest art t he PC. If so, click t he [ Yes] but t on. If Windows
does not prompt you t o rest art your comput er, do so anyways t o ensure your set t ings.
