Securing a Child Restraint in a
Center Rear Seat Position
If your child restraint is equipped with the LATCH
system, see Lower Anchorages and Top Tethers for
Children (LATCH System) on page 1-62. See Top Strap
on page 1-57 if the child restraint has one.
If your child restraint does not have the LATCH system,
you will be using the lap-shoulder belt to secure the
child restraint in the center rear seating position.
To secure a child restraint in this position, you'll use
only the lap part of the belt. Disconnect the shoulder part
of the belt and store it before securing child restraint.
See Center Rear Passenger Position on page 1-42.
If you're using a top strap-equipped child restraint in the
center rear seat and need to temporarily transport a flat
tire for repair, move the child restraint to a rear seat
outboard position. See Securing a Child Restraint in a
Rear Outside Seat Position on page 1-64 for more on
this, including important safety information.
Be sure to follow the instructions that came with the
child restraint. Secure the child in the child restraint
when and as the instructions say.
1. Make the belt as long as possible by tilting the latch
plate and pulling it along the belt.
2. Put the restraint on the seat.
3. Run the vehicle's safety belt through or around the
restraint. The child restraint instructions will show
you how.
