Alarm System

The alarm system monitors the following alarm
contacts:
– Alarm contacts in doors, luggage compartment
lids and headlights.
– Passenger compartment monitoring system:
Movement inside this area when the vehicle is
locked, e.g. attempted theft by breaking a
window.
– Inclination sensor (country-specific equipment:
Tilting of the vehicle (e.g. attempt to tow the
vehicle)).
If one of these alarm contacts is triggered, the alarm
signal sounds for approx. 30 seconds and the
emergency flasher comes on.
The alarm is triggered again after a 5 second interval.
This cycle is repeated up to ten times (country-
dependent).
Information
Depending on the country, the alarm system is
automatically activated 30 seconds after closing the
last door or the luggage compartment lid if the
vehicle key is removed from the ignition lock. This is
also the case if the vehicle has not been locked.
Passenger compartment monitoring system and the
inclination sensor are switched off. If a door or
luggage compartment lid is opened, the alarm is
triggered.
e Always lock the vehicle when leaving it.
e Inform any persons remaining in the vehicle that
the alarm system will be triggered if the door is
opened.
To deactivate the triggered alarm system:
e Unlock the vehicle or switch on the ignition.
Switching the alarm system on/off
e The alarm system is activated when the vehicle is
locked.
e The alarm system is deactivated when the vehicle
is unlocked.
Information
If you unlock the vehicle with the emergency key in
the door lock, you must switch the ignition on within
15 seconds of opening the door in order to prevent
the alarm system from being triggered.
The time it takes to trigger the alarm system differs
depending on the country.
Switching off the alarm system
after the alarm has been triggered
e Unlock the vehicle
– or –
Switch on the ignition.
Switching off passenger compart-
ment monitoring system and incli-
nation sensor
If people or animals are remaining in the locked
vehicle or the vehicle is being transported on a train
or ship, for example, the passenger compartment
monitoring system and inclination sensor must be
switched off temporarily.

e Inform any persons remaining in the vehicle that
the alarm system will be triggered if the door is
opened.
Information
The passenger compartment monitoring system and
inclination sensor remain switched off if the vehicle
automatically locks itself 30 seconds after being
unlocked, as none of the doors have been opened.
Using the vehicle key
e Press button
twice within 2 seconds.
The emergency flasher emits one long flash.
The doors are locked but can be opened from the
inside by pulling the door opener.
Function display
The locked state is displayed by different flashing
speeds in the central locking button.
Alarm system is activated
The light indicators flash rapidly when the vehicle is
being locked, then flash in normal mode.
The alarm system is activated and the
passenger compartment monitoring system
and inclination sensor are deactivated
The light indicators flash rapidly while you are locking
the vehicle, go out for 10 seconds and then flash in
normal mode.
Faults in the central locking system and alarm
system.
The light indicators come on for 10 seconds, flash
briefly twice in succession for 20 seconds and then
flash in normal mode.
