Drive control lever in the 1 position:
This setting is selected for slow forward
drive.
Drive control lever in the 2 position:
This setting is selected for fast forward
drive.
Drive control lever in the R position:
This setting is selected for reverse drive.
To set reverse drive, lift the
drive control lever slightly and push
to the left.

8.4 Self-propulsion lever

The drive is engaged or disengaged by
actuating the self-propulsion lever when
the engine is running – the drive shaft
begins to rotate or is stopped.

When the self-propulsion lever is actuated
and with the hoes and running wheels
installed, the tiller moves upon contact with
the ground.
The self-propulsion lever is mechanically
locked for safety reasons. This prevents
inadvertent actuation. (

Avoid damage to the machine!
Actuation of the self-propulsion
lever should be performed quickly
and promptly. Do not dwell in the
half-pressed position – prevent
excessive wear to the V-belt.
Actuate the self-propulsion lever:
● 1 Press release lever (1) to the stop
and hold.
● 2 Press self-propulsion lever (2)
quickly to the stop and hold.
● Release release lever (1).
The drive is engaged and the drive
shaft rotates.
● 3 Disengaging the drive:
Release self-propulsion lever (2).

9. Safety devices

The machine is equipped with several
safety devices for safe operation and for
the prevention of improper use.
Risk of injury!
Safety devices must not be
removed, bypassed, modified or
damaged. If a safety device is
found to be defective, the machine
must not be operated. Consult a
specialist dealer; STIHL
recommends STIHL specialist
dealers.

9.1 Self-propulsion lever lock

The self-propulsion lever is mechanically
locked for safety reasons. This prevents
inadvertent actuation.
The release lever must be pressed before
the self-propulsion lever can be actuated.

9.2 Safety devices
The tiller is equipped with safety devices
which prevent inadvertent contact with the
work tools and protect against objects
thrown up by the machine.
These include the side guard plates and
correctly installed handlebar.
