Notes on snow chains
& WARNING Risk of accident due to incor‐
rect mounting of snow chains
If you have mounted snow chains to the front
wheels, the snow chains may drag against
the vehicle body or chassis components.
This could cause damage to the vehicle or
the tires.
Never mount snow chains on the front
#
wheels.
Only mount snow chains on the rear
#
wheels in pairs.

vehicle body or chassis due to mounted
snow chains
If you mount snow chains to the front wheels
of 4MATIC vehicles, you may damage compo‐
nents of the vehicle body or chassis.
Only mount snow chains to the rear
#
wheels of 4MATIC vehicles.
Observe the following notes when using snow
chains:
Snow chains are only permissible for certain
R
wheel/tire combinations. You can obtain
information about this from an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center.
For safety reasons, only use snow chains that
R
have been specifically approved for your
vehicle by Mercedes-Benz, or snow chains
with the same quality standard.
If snow chains are installed, the maximum
R
permissible speed is 30 mph (50 km/h).
Vehicles with Active Parking Assist: Do
R
not use Active Parking Assist when snow
chains are installed.
Vehicles with level control: If snow chains
R
are installed, only drive at raised vehicle level
(
page 254).

Vehicles with rear axle steering: If snow
R
chains are installed, only drive with snow
chain mode active (
page 359).

page 219). This allows the wheels to

spin, achieving an increased driving force.

Snow Chain
#
When the function is active, the vehicle behaves
as if snow chains were mounted. For example,
the maximum steering movement of the rear
wheels is limited.
Additionally, parts of the driving and driving
safety systems are not available when snow
chain mode is active.
