    You can make copies, and scan from the ADF (automatic document feeder) and from the scanner glass. Using the ADF (DCP-540CN only) The ADF can hold up to 10 pages and feeds each sheet individually. Use standard 80 g/m (20 lb) paper and always fan the pages before putting them in the ADF.

    How to load documents Note To use the scanner glass, the ADF must be empty. Lift the document cover. Using the document guidelines on the left, center the document face down on the scanner glass. Close the document cover. CAUTION If you are scanning a book or thick document, DO NOT slam the cover or press on it.

    Handling and using media Store paper in its original packaging, and keep it sealed. Keep the paper flat and away from moisture, direct sunlight and heat. The coated side of photo paper is shiny. Avoid touching the shiny (coated) side. Load photo paper with the shiny side facing down.

    Chapter 2 Loading paper, envelopes and other media Loading paper and other media Note To print on Photo L or 10 x 15 cm paper, please see Loading photo paper on page 20. Pull the paper tray completely out of the machine.

    Chapter 2 Slowly push the paper tray completely back into the machine. While holding the paper tray in place, pull out the paper support (1) until it clicks and unfold the paper support flap (2). Note Do not use the paper support flap for Legal paper.

  • Page 28 Chapter 2 Loading photo paper Use the photo paper tray which has been assembled on the top of the paper tray to print on photo 10 × 15 cm and photo L size paper. You can leave paper in the standard paper tray when using the photo paper tray.

    Clean the outside of the machine as follows: Pull the paper tray (1) completely out of the machine. Wipe the outside of the machine with a soft cloth to remove dust. Lift the output paper tray cover and remove anything that is stuck inside the paper tray.
