    After reading this manual, store it in a safe place for future reference. The Voice Operation Kit enables users of Canon multifunction printers (hereinafter referred to as "the machine") to hear voice navigation instructions when operating the machine.

    Control Panel Parts and Their Functions When you are using the Manual and Vocal mode or Manual mode, a red rectangle (hereinafter called "the focus") appears over keys and settings on the touch panel display via operation of the control panel keys. When you are using the Vocal mode, the focus can be guided to keys and settings via your voice.

In this case, you can operate the machine using the optional numeric keypad. • Press and hold (Voice Navigation) for more than three seconds to start or end the Voice Navigation mode.

    Microphone and Speaker The Voice Operation Kit includes a voice unit, which contains a microphone and a speaker for announcing Voice Navigation messages. Using the Microphone and Speaker ■ Microphone Speaker The voice unit is attached to the right side of the machine.
  • Page 42 •  Do not connect any other devices to the jack for the voice unit cable, as this may cause damage to the machine. •  Make sure not to get the cables of the voice unit caught when opening or closing the cover on the right side of the machine, as this may cause damage to the cables, and result in the speaker not operating correctly.

    Reversing the Contrast of the Touch Panel Display You can reverse the contrast on the touch panel display for better viewing. The Reversed Display mode reverses the light and dark areas on the touch panel display. If you find it difficult to read what is being shown on the touch panel display, try using this mode.

    Changing the Key Repeat Settings When pressing the touch panel display to operate the machine, sometimes you may unintentionally enter keys due to the key repeat function (which continues to enter the same key when that key is pressed and held down). In this case, try using this mode to make the key repeat speed slower.

    External Switch > A commercially available external switch can be used to recognize voices if you have trouble pressing the Voice Recognition button of the voice unit. You can use an external switch by connecting it to the external switch jack on the back of the machine using a 3.5 mm diameter monaural plug.

    Moving the Focus > The focus is displayed on the screen when the Manual and Vocal mode or Manual mode is set. To move the focus, press (Back) or (Next). The focus encircles a selectable item. Move the focus to the desired item → press (Select).

    Shutting Down the Machine If there are any jobs currently being processed, or a MEAP application is running when the Shutdown mode is activated, the machine asks you to confirm and cancel any existing jobs, and then restricts access to the hard disk. This protects the hard disk from access errors the next time the machine is turned ON.
