４. ADJUSTMENT OF FLANGE FOCAL LENGTH
The flange focal length s the dstance from the flange (mountng surface) of a lens to the focal plane.
If the focal plane of the lens does not concde wth the mage plane of the camera, the object wll be out of focus
durng a zoom operaton. To prevent ths from happenng, the adjustment of the flange focal length s requred.
Make sure to carry out the adjustment when nstallng the lens to a camera for the first tme or nstallng t to
another camera.
4.1 CONDITIONS OF OBJECT AND DIAPHRAGM
. Object : Use the Semens Star (the chart made
up of radal black and whte lnes) at
the end of ths manual as an object.
. Dstance of object
: About  meters
. Daphragm : Open or as near to open as possble.
Note: The depth of feld decreases by openng the
aperture of the lens, and t becomes possble to
focus on an object more precsely. To precsely
adjust the flange focal length, carefully adjust the focus as much as possble.
4.2 ADJUSTMENT
After nstallng the lens to the camera and
turnng t ON, perform adjustment by watchng
the montor of the camera. At ths tme,
connect the lens cable to the lens connector
on the camera.
For the operaton of focusng and zoomng,
refer to "Focus Operaton" and "Zoom
Operaton" (pages 6 and 7).
Note. Before adjustng the flange focal length,
set the zoom lmt ON/OFF select swtch to
"OFF." (refer to page )
a. Loosen the F.f lockng knob by rotatng
t counterclockwse.
b. Operate the zoom to set t to the wde
end.
c. Rotate the F.f adjustng rng usng the F.f lockng knob to focus on the Semens Star located approxmately
 meters away. The poston where the radal black and whte lnes become sharpest s the optmum focus
poston.
d. Operate the zoom to set t to the telephoto end.
e. Operate the focus to brng the object nto focus.
f. Operate the zoom to set t to the wde end agan, and check that the optmum focus poston adjusted n
step 'c' s kept.
g. To adjust precsely, repeat the above steps 'b' through 'f' several tmes.
(If the most optmum focus poston usually holds n all zoom areas, the flange focal length s adjusted
precsely. If t s not focused, the flange focal length s not adjusted suffcently.
In ths case, start adjustng agan from step 'b.' )
h. Fnally tghten the F.f lockng knob frmly.
