    Chapter 1 — Introduction Chapter 1 — Introduction The Intellex digital video management system displays and SAMPLE records images from multiple video cameras. It provides a CONFIGURATION variety of display and recording options which you can configure according to your specific needs. A sample configuration is shown below.

    Intellex ® Operating Instructions One or more Intellex units can be connected over a local area SAMPLE NETWORK network (LAN). Its data can then be managed from a central CONFIGURATION site using the Network Client (sold separately). A sample net- work configuration is shown below.

    Chapter 1 — Introduction INTELLEX FEATURES • Enhanced triplex operation provides simultaneous record/display, playback and archiving. • IntelleCord filters identify types of activity during record- ing (see Filter Descriptions for more information). They ig- nore images with unimportant activity, making efficient use of recording capacity.
  • Page 12 • On-screen menus simplify system setup and operation. • Online help information is available from every screen. • One alarm input and one alarm output are available for each camera (eight pairs on eight camera units, 16 pairs on 16 camera units). The polarity for each alarm input can be set to either active high or active low.

    Chapter 1 — Introduction TECHNICAL OVERVIEW The Intellex unit processes video images from each camera Digital Picture Processing and stores them in the unit’s image database. The unit stores two types of images. It selects a reference im- age, which is a complete image, and compresses the image’s information.

    Security Schedule Regular Schedule Custom Schedule Single Camera The Intellex unit includes a user security system to prevent unauthorized use. To log in, operators must use their personal identification numbers (PINs). Their PINs and functions are assigned by the system administrator. When the operator leaves the unit unattended, he or she should log out to maintain system security.

    Chapter 1 — Introduction Archiving Archiving provides image backup, restore and playback on all units equipped with a Digital Audio Tape (DAT) drive. You can back up images in foreground or background mode. Backup In foreground mode, the unit stops recording until it finishes backing up the database.

    Chapter 2 — Basic Live Operation STARTING THE INTELLEX UNIT CAUTION: Before connecting power, set the voltage switch to the appropriate voltage (“115” or “230”) (see Intellex Installation Instructions ). To start up the Intellex unit, simply plug it in. If the unit does not power up, insert a paper clip into the pinhole below the power indicator to turn on unit power.

    USING THE MOUSE, FRONT PANEL AND KEYBOARD Mouse Operation Front Panel Operation Keyboard Operation The Intellex unit requires a mouse or other pointing device. The mouse is a “point and click” tool which lets you perform all unit functions. For text entry, the unit includes a virtual keyboard and a virtual keypad, which are displayed on-screen and are operated using the mouse.

    Intellex ® Operating Instructions The Intellex unit manages user activity through a system of SECURITY user names and personal identification numbers (PINs). When CONSIDERATIONS changing users at the login screen, the unit checks the PIN against the user list. If it is valid, you gain access to all of your assigned privileges.

This menu is especially helpful in full-screen mode. 1. Move the mouse pointer over the image area. In some cases, you must move the mouse pointer over a specific image.

    Generate Alarm Camera Mode NOTE: This feature is only available for active cameras and will not affect any cameras already in an alarm state. NOTE: Generating alarms is a protected feature.     Full-Screen Operation NOTE: When zooming to a desired area, the unit maintains a 4:3 (width-to-height) ratio. If you drag tall and thin, the selected area will not be tall, but will maintain the gen- eral shape of the screen. Likewise, if you drag short and wide, the selected area will not be wide, but will maintain the general shape of the screen.

When you press or click the Status button, the following screen appears: The information on this screen reflects the camera schedule settings as well as the general unit configuration settings.

    Chapter 3 — Playback Operation Using the Playback Screen The playback screen can be accessed in several ways. From the main screen, click the Play/Pause button to access the most recent images in the image database. Then use the controls to review activity backward from this moment. From either the main screen or the playback screen, click the Search button to search the image database for specific video segments.
  • Page 44 Play/Pause knob — Use the Play/Pause knob to change the playback speed and direction. Images can be played back in forward or reverse direction, using a speed scale from one to five. In Play mode, the unit uses a higher speed scale and plays images faster.

    Chapter 3 — Playback Operation Working with Search Results Sorting the Search Results Whenever a search is started, the unit displays the results in the lower portion of the search screen. It lists each video seg- ment that matches the search criteria. Even though the unit does not sort the list of video segments, the operator can sort the list by date and time, camera name, alarm name (or type) and duration.

    Chapter 3 — Playback Operation IMAGE ENHANCEMENT TOOLS Use the image enhancement tools screen to enhance an image from the image database or from the restored images data- base. Adjust the brightness, contrast, balance, color and sharp- ness of the image. NOTE: Image enhancement is a protected feature.

Sharpen — Use this option to sharpen the zoomed area of the image. The unit reduces the amount of blur in the image. The amount of sharpening depends on the zoom level.

When configured, these filters help the unit record important activity and ignore unimportant activity.
