Connections
Before making connections, be sure to turn the power off to all
audio components, and disconnect the vehicle's positive (+)
terminal until all connections are made.
1 RCA Input
Connect these jacks to the line out leads of your headunit using
RCA extension cables (sold separately). The INPUT select
switch 2 must be selected to RCA for operation.
3 Remote Bass Control Input
In systems where dedicated subwoofer level control is
unavailable, connect this jack with the included cable to the
Remote Bass Control Unit, and mount securely where it can be
accessed within the cabin for adjustment.
4 Battery Terminal (BATT)
Making sure that the vehicle's positive (+) battery terminal is
disconnected fi rst, connect the amplifi er's BATT terminal with a
power lead wire (recommended minimum of 8 gauge wire, sold
separately). Although the PLT-5 amplifi er is fused, you must
install an in-line fuse (sold separately) with a minimum 40A rating
to this power lead as close to the battery as possible to protect
your vehicle's electrical system in case of a short circuit.
5 Remote Turn-On Terminal (REM)
Connect this lead to the remote turn-on or power antenna (posi-
tive trigger, (+) 12V only) lead of your headunit. Note: connection
of this terminal is unnecessary if using speaker level input only.
6 Ground Terminal (GND
Connect this lead securely to a clean, bare metal spot on the
vehicle's chassis. Verify this point is a true ground by checking
for continuity between that point and the negative (-) terminal
of the vehicle's battery. Ground all of your audio components to
the same point on the chassis to prevent ground loops.
7 Speaker Level Input
With the supplied speaker level input connector and pigtail wiring,
this connection is for headunits not equipped with preamp level
outputs. The INPUT select switch 2 must be selected to SPK
for operation. Note: speaker level inputs have automatic turn-on
signal sensing, and therefore no remote trigger is required.

8 Gain Control
Using a dynamic music CD as a source, and with GAIN set
to MIN (minimum), increase the headunit volume until the
output becomes noticeably distorted. Then reduce the headunit
volume to just below the point of distortion onset. Adjust the
GAIN as necessary to achieve maximum system volume at
minimum amplifi er gain while avoiding output clipping.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
a) For initial GAIN adjustment, make sure BASS EQ is set to
B
0dB (fl at) and Remote Bass Control
to maximum.
b) During setup, port air rush noise may be noticeable with
some music content while in close proximity to the PLT-5 at
maximum output. However, it will be inaudible in virtually all
vehicle applications at the listening position(s).
9 Low-pass Filter
This setting allows you to adjust your subwoofer system's
crossover frequency. The crossover range is 50Hz to 120Hz.
The most common setting is between 70Hz and 90Hz. Note:
Due to the PLT-5's low distortion and wide bandwidth, it may
be advantageous for system integration to initially select and
evaluate a higher than traditional crossover point.
0
Bass EQ
This setting provides the ability to boost low frequency output of
the system (centered at 45Hz, Q=1.8) from 0db (fl at) to +12dB.
Note: it may be necessary to lower the GAIN 8 if applying
signifi cant boost.
A
Phase Select
With this switch at 0, the PLT-5's output will be in phase with
full-range speakers in the system. At 180, it will be out of phase.
It may be advantageous to try both positions, depending on the
particular vehicle or subwoofer location.
B Remote Bass Control
In systems where separate subwoofer level control is
unavailable, the included Remote Bass Control Unit may
be used to adjust the PLT-5's output level remotely. If set to
maximum as recommended during initial setup, it will function
as an attenuator.
