GETTING STARTED Never plug the AC power cord to the wall outlet until all connections are completed. Follow the steps as shown below to connect the system using the supplied cords and accessories. Right speaker – To wall outlet Connect the speakers. Connect the speaker cords to the SPEAKERS terminals so that the polarity of the speaker cables is correct. -

Connecting other components To enhance your system, you can connect other components. Refer to the instructions of each component. Connecting the KX-M5 (cassette deck) or MDX-M5 (MD deck) Connect A to A, and B to B (for connecting the KX-M5), C to C, and D to D (for connecting the MDX-M5) using the audio connecting cords. -

GETTING STARTED Connecting the external antennas To improve the reception, connect the external antennas instead of the supplied antennas. AM antenna Use a 6 to 15 meter (20 to 50 feet) insulated wire to connect to the AM antenna terminal and leave the supplied AM loop antenna connected. -

RECEIVING RDS STATIONS (U.K. and Europe models only) What is RDS? RDS (Radio Data System) is a data transmission system gradually being introduced by FM stations in many countries. Press TUNING //? repeatedly to select the timer play mode. Each time you press TUNING //?, the timer play mode changes as follows: PLAY • When you select “PLAY” mode Normal timer play mode is set. In this mode, set the volume level for timer play manually. -

RECORDING USING THE MDX-M5 OR KX-M5 Automatic CD edit recording on the KX-M5 By specifying the total possible recording time of the tape, the unit programs tracks or helps you to program tracks so they will fit onto the tape with the least amount of unrecorded space remaining at each end of the tape. -
