Connecting the Hydraulic
Hoses
WARNING
POTENTIAL HAZARD
Hydraulic fluid escaping under pressure
can penetrate skin and cause injury.
WHAT CAN HAPPEN
Fluid accidentally injected into the skin
must be surgically removed within a few
hours by a doctor familiar with this form of
injury or gangrene may result.
HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD
Keep body and hands away from pin hole
leaks or nozzles that eject high pressure
hydraulic fluid.
Use cardboard or paper to find hydraulic
leaks, never use your hands.
1. Move the pump control lever to the slow (turtle)
position, then start engine.
2. Move the auxiliary hydraulics lever to the forward,
rearward, and neutral position to relieve hydraulic
pressure.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that all foreign matter is
cleaned from hydraulic connections before making
connections.
3. Remove the protective covers from hydraulic couplers
on the traction unit.
4. Connect the covers together to prevent contamination
during operation.
5. Slide the collar back on the hydraulic couplers, and
connect the attachment couplers to the traction unit
couplers.
6. Confirm that the connection is secure by pulling on the
hoses.
Removing the Trencher from
the Traction Unit
1. Start the engine and lower the trencher to the ground
or onto a trailer.
2. Stop the engine.
3. Disengage the quick attach pins by turning them to the
outside.
4. Slide the collars back on the hydraulic couplers and
disconnect them.
IMPORTANT: Connect the attachment hoses together
to prevent hydraulic system contamination during
storage.
5. Install protective covers onto the hydraulic couplers on
the traction unit.
6. Start the engine, tilt the mount plate forward, and back
the traction unit away from the trencher.
Operation
Digging with the Trencher
1. Move the pump selector valve lever to the slow (turtle
position), then start the engine.
2. Pull the auxiliary hydraulics lever rearward to engage
the trencher.
3. Slowly lower the trencher to the ground so that the
boom and chain are parallel to the ground.
4. Begin inserting the nose of the boom and chain into
the ground by slowly raising the trencher a few inches
off the ground while tilting the nose down into the
ground gradually.
5. Once the trencher boom is in the ground at a 45 to 60
degree angle, slowly lower the trencher until the spoils
auger is just above the ground.
6. Ensure that all parts of the trencher are functioning
correctly.
7. Slowly move the traction unit backward to extend the
trench.
Note: If you move too fast, the trencher will stall. If it
stalls, raise it slightly, slowly drive forward, or reverse the
chain direction momentarily.
8. When finished, raise the trencher and boom out of the
trench by tilting the attachment rearward, then stop the
trencher by moving the auxiliary hydraulics lever into
neutral.
