• Every unused drive bay must be occupied by a filler panel.
• Filler panels must be installed in all empty host interface adapter slots.
Use the supplied power cords to connect both power supply units of the enclosure to their power sources.
If the power sources have circuit breakers or switches, ensure that they are turned on. The enclosure
does not have power switches.
Notes:
• Each enclosure has two power supply units. To provide power failure redundancy, connect the two
power cords to separate power circuits.
• Ensure that each power cable is secured to each PSU on the back of the enclosure.
Next, you will connect an Ethernet cable to the SSR access port on the canister and checkout the
hardware.

Connecting an Ethernet cable to SSR access port (IBM SSR task)

Before you check the system, you must connect an Ethernet cable to the SSR access port on the AF8
enclosure.
1. Locate the SSR access ports on the ESS 3000 system, as shown in the following figure:

2. Connect an Ethernet cable to an SSR access port. The cable must be long enough to easily connect to
a Notebook computer.

3. Complete the steps outlined in the "Elastic Storage System 3000 installation (SSR task)" on page 51.
