Spraying System Operates Incorrectly

FAILURE MODE
Spraying pattern is uneven or spraying
system does not operate.
24
CAUSE OF PROBLEM
The spray nozzle tips are out of posi-
tion.
The pressure relief valve is set incor-
rectly.
The strainer or tip is clogged.
The filter is clogged.
The pump won't operate.
Spray tank volume is low.
The engine speed is too low.
The pump is worn or damaged.
Troubleshooting
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Ensure the spray nozzles are not dam-
aged or that the nozzle mounting tab is
not bent.
Verify that the pressure gauge reads
approximately 20 psi at full engine
speed when spraying. Adjust the
pressure relief knob in or out to obtain
this pressure. Tighten the locking nut
against the pressure relief knob.
Remove the spray nozzle tip. Inspect
the tip orifice and the straniner to
ensure they are not clogged. Clean or
replace these components as neces-
sary.
Remove the sediment bowl from the
filter housing and inspect the filter
screen. Clean or replace the screen as
necessary.
Inspect the pump fuse located in the
fuse holder by the battery box. En-
sure that either the console switch or
the foot platform switch actuates the
pump.
Refill the spray tank. Note that in very
rough or hilly conditions, the liquid in
the spray tank may slosh around and
the tank discharge tube may starve
when the tank level is low. This can
cause poor spraying performance.
Operate the machine at full engine
speed. The spray system is designed
to operate most efficiently at full engine
speed.
Loosen the suction fitting on the pump
to verify that there is liquid flow to the
pump. Tighten the suction fitting nad
loosen the discharge fitting to verify
that the pump is operating correctly. If
there is no flow, replace the pump.
