Starting the engine

Notes
To start the engine when warm, follow the
"high ambient temperature" procedure.
Warning
E
Before starting the engine, familiarize yourself with
the controls to be used while riding (page 10).
Normal ambient temperature
(10 °C/50 °F to 35 °C/95 °F):
1) Move the ignition key to ON (fig. 41). Check that both
the green light N and the red light
panel come on.
Important
The oil pressure light should go out a few seconds
after the engine has started (page 11).
Warning
The side stand must be fully up (horizontal position),
otherwise the safety sensor prevents engine start-up.
Notes
It is possible to start the engine with side stand down
and the gearbox in neutral. If starting the motorcycle with
a gear engaged, pull the clutch lever (in this case the side
stand must be up).

2) Move the cold start lever (1) to (B, fig. 42).
3) Check that the stop switch (2, fig. 43) is positioned
to
(RUN), then press the starter button (3, fig. 43).
This model has servo-assisted starting.
To use the servo-assisted starting feature, press the start
button (3) and release immediately.
When you press the button (3) the starter motor runs
automatically for a maximum period, which varies
according to engine temperature.
The system disengages the starter motor as soon as the
engine starts.
