2 SERVICE HINT for Gear case on Cultivator, ProSweep, ProThatch attachment

2-1 Disassembling gear case

Note: Gear case on cultivator, ProSweep and
ProThatch attachment is the same except for the
worm wheel shaft. The cultivator shaft is round,
where as the shaft of ProSweep and ProThatch is
square.
1. Remove five screws securing gear case halves.
2. Tap gently on worm wheel shaft (A) with plastic
mallet to separate gear halves.
3. Separate shaft assembly from gear case half
then remove oil seals and retaining rings.
4. Remove ball bearings using bearing wedge (B)
897701-06030.
5. Hold worm wheel (C) in a vise and heat up it
with heater, then tap end of worm wheel shaft by
plastic mallet to remove gear from shaft.
WARNING
Before heating gear, put on heavy gloves to
protect you from burning.
6. Remove retaining ring (D) from gear case bore.
7. Pull out gear assembly using puller (E) 897703-
08930 and spacer with 30mm outer diameter (F) of
bearing tool 897701-14732 as shown
NOTE: Ball bearings should be replaced once
removed from the gear case because they are
distorted from the process of disassembling.
