Diskettes
Diskettes store data as a series of magnetic fields on a disk enclosed in a
protective plastic jacket. The plastic jacket protects the magnetic disk from
dirt and damage. A storage envelope provides additional protection.
Warning: You must use the correct types of diskettes to assure the
successful operation of the IBM R T PC System.
If
you use the
incorrect diskette, the data on the diskette is destroyed. See "About
Diskette and Drive Compatibility" on page 1-17 for additional
information on selecting a diskette.
You should format diskettes to be used by the IBM RT PC System. The
way your diskettes are formatted depends upon the program and the type of
drive you are using. Refer to the documentation for your program and
Using and Managing the A/X Operating System for information on
formatting diskettes.
You can use diskettes, tapes, or fixed disks to store and back up files. For
additional information see Using and Managing the A/X Operating System or
Usability Services Reference (if Usability Services is installed on the system).
