    Chapter 1 Introduction Overview The ATEN VS482B Switch is an ideal solution for application requiring superior video resolution of True 4K when connecting 4 HDMI A/V sources to 2 HDMI displays. Complying with HDMI 2.0 standards, the switch’s Audio Return Channel (ARC) function allows users to send audio without having to attach a separate audio cable.

    To prevent damage to your installation it is important that all devices are properly grounded. 1. Use a grounding wire to ground the VS482B by connecting one end of the wire to the grounding terminal, and the other end of the wire to a suitable grounded object.

    Chapter 2. Hardware Setup Installation Installation of the VS482B is simply a matter of plugging in the appropriate cables. VS482B Installation To install the switch, refer to the installation diagram below as you perform the following steps: 1. Connect your audio devices (such as speakers or AVRs) to the Stereo Audio Out Ports or Digital Audio Out Ports.

    In order to use the RS-232 serial interface to attach a high-end controller (such as a PC) to the VS482B, use a serial cable such as a modem cable. The end connecting to the VS482B should have a 9-pin male connector. Connect this to the serial interface on the rear of the VS482B.

  • Page 43: The Firmware Upgrade Utility

    Introduction The purpose of the Windows-based Firmware Upgrade Utility is to provide an easy process for upgrading the VS482B. The program comes as part of a Firmware Upgrade Package that is specific for each device. As new firmware versions become available, new firmware upgrade packages are posted on our website.

    Preparation To prepare for the firmware upgrade, do the following: 1. Use an RS-232 cable to connect a COM port on your computer to the RS- 232 Serial Port of your VS482B. VS482B 2. Unplug the VS482B’s power adapter. 3. Hold-down front panel pushbutton 1 and plug the power adapter into the VS482B to power the unit.

    Chapter 4. The Firmware Upgrade Utility Starting the Upgrade To upgrade the firmware: 1. Run the downloaded firmware upgrade package file either by double- clicking the file icon, or by opening a command line and entering the full path to it.
