1020 M.2 SSD and thermal pad

For access, remove this FRU:
• "1010 Base cover assembly" on page 71
Attention:
• Do not drop the drive or apply any physical shock to it. The drive is sensitive to physical shock. Improper
handling can cause damage and permanent loss of data.
• Before removing the drive, have the user make a backup copy of all the information on it if possible.
• Never remove the drive while the system is operating or in sleep mode.
For computer models that support the Intel Optane technology, disable the Intel Optane memory before
removing it. To disable the Intel Optane memory, do the following:
1. Restart the computer. When the logo screen is displayed, press F1.
Note: If a supervisor password has been set, enter the correct password when prompted. You also can
press Enter to skip the password prompt and enter the BIOS menu. However, you cannot change the
system configurations that are protected by the supervisor password.
2. Select Config ➙ Storage ➙ Intel (R) Rapid Storage Technology ➙ Intel Optane ➙ Disable.
3. Select to preserve user data and select Yes to confirm your operation.
4. Select Disable and wait for the process to complete.
Note: The disabling process may take from a couple of minutes to hours. Do not restart the computer
until the process is completed.
5. Press F10 to save changes and exit.
